We left Kruger park in the morning. It was sad but it is wen we leave anywhere.we drove to a elephant sanctuary. Wen we got there they gave out coffee to the people who wanted some. Then they took us to the spot were the elephants sleep. Then they taught us a little on the life sickle of elephants and that they have no record of an elephant dying of old age. They have 6 pares of teeth in there life time they eventually lose them all and dies. The longest recorded life of an elephant is 71. They then took us to the elephants. There were two boys there. We got to fell its tongue and it's feet they were really tough. Then the elephant gave you a kiss if you didn't move it was ... read more

We had asked Albert a guide we had met on our travels to arrange a ‘road trip with a difference’ for us, incorporating everything we had loved from our other three safaris around Southern Africa, mainly concentrating on scenery, wildlife, walking and raw nature - plus we also still needed to find the allusive cheetah!!!! The trip would take us through Swaziland and Lesotho and finally along the Garden Route and into Cape Town arriving in early December. We would be travelling with Albert initially but Ruth, his wife would catch up with us somewhere around the Karoo and join us for the rest of the trip. We were really looking forward to this journey as they both had a real passion for wildlife and a great respect for nature which was the main reason they ... read more

Tuesday morning we hitched up the caravan and set off for Swaziland. Andy hadn't towed a caravan for probably about 20 years but he made a good job of it, except of course for the stop signs he missed ('I'll stop twice at the next one') and the speed bumps (STOP!) that snuck up on us when he was admiring the view. The border crossing was quick and easy – where do they find all those incredibly miserable people – and we were 'asked' if we would like to buy a passport cover for 'widows and orphans'. We wanted to get through the border as quickly as possible so agreed we would take one each, the lady was so shocked she gave us 2 extra free for our 'daughters'. We eventually arrived at Mlilwane Game Reserve ... read more

This was my 1st time out of the country (RSA). I was so excited to get my 2st stamp in my passport and say that I went to the Magical Swaziland. This country is so rich in culture and heritage, that i just wanted to see every attraction and explore more. My visit was a Week away in the stunning Ezulwini Valley with the mountain range surrounding us as a maganifisant back drop. We went to see the royal cral and hear all about the culture of the swazi people, intresting as I got to see the dance of the people, drink of thier home made beer and met a Shangoma. The House on Fire is a unique attraction, fairly new. But ba site to see as there are many artistic patterns, statues, sayings and funny ... read more

I got very lucky on the day I was leaving Sodwana Bay and South Africa. Curtis, from USA, who was also staying at Natural Moments, was leaving the same day I was for Johannesburg in his rented car. He kindly agreed to drop me close to the Swazi border, but in the end brought me all the way to the Onverwacht border post with Swaziland. At first, this didn’t look like it would be the best border to cross at. We had to follow a gravel road for a few kilometres before re-joining the tarred road to the border. There wasn’t a much signs of any other vehicles going through, which didn’t bode well for my hopes of getting a lift of some sort to the next town. The Swazi immigration official gave me some grief ... read more

Geo: -26.1141, 31.0989Today was our earliest start yet. Breakfast SERVED at 5.15am in anticipation for a 6am departure from Lower Sabi, for our last early game drive of Kruger. Again, it was a relatively uneventful morning, with few extraordinary sightings. A few cool things to mention included a dwarf mongoose, some tree squirrels and a frisky Honey Badger. Before we knew it, we had left Kruger and were heading towards the landlocked Kingdom of Swaziland. The border crossing was extremely quick and painless. Once the formalities were done, we walked across nomans land and entered Swaziland, the only non-democratic nation remaining in Southern Africa, ruled by a king; Mswati the 3rd. The population here is around about a million people and its currency is called the Illangeni (on par with the South African Rand). Swaziland has the ... read more

Swaziland is one of the smallest countries in the world and it seems that it is belonging to ‘real’ Africa. For first time during our Africa journey we crossed the border in our own car and we were met by dirty and almost 4x4 roads. On these small forest roads our small car left just a ball of dust behind and surprised local eyes. The kids were running after our car, people walking and starring on the roads – welcome back to Africa. The real Africa was here once again and reminded us about our challenging time around Africa which we have forgotten a little bit and seem it was ages ago. South Africa is so far away from the other African nations that we visited or perhaps that it is quite comfortable now. In fact ... read more

Day12 – Leaving Mozambique is in a certain sense the end of our trip. We left Maputo early and looked for a filling station on our way out. A Policeman noticed that we look a little lost, came driving to us across an intersection with his motorcycle and told us to follow him. We crossed a red robot and on the way he shouted at some taxis who were apparently misbehaving. Finally he pointed us to the entrance of the filling station and waved good-bye. Man, I like driving a bike! Once again we did not have many experiences along the way and I contribute it to the fact that mentally our holiday was over. We also tried to cover longer distances and therefore stopped less. The crossing at the Swazi border (Goba / Mhlumeni Border ... read more

After leaving Kruger Park, driving south, we entered yet another African country: Swaziland. First on the agenda was to clean the camper. The dirt roads in Kruger made a red dusty mess of both the inside and the outside of the camper. Frequently, on the roadside, you see CAR WASH- at some very unlikely spot. The first one we saw, we pulled in. There was a tap for water, with a hose, some buckets, and one guy who looked VERY ragged. The price- 50 Rand- (South American Currency) equivalent to about $6. Cdn. Mark commited to the deal. Immediately, about 4 other guys showed up- they all took buckets and rags- and proceeded to clean the camper like it had never been cleaned. They scrubbed- sprayed and dried it- even under the wheel wells- the tires- ... read more
