brrrr - it is f*ing cold in switzerland ! i am back in cheese&chocolat country since friday the 11th and i am still struggeling with the adaption! far too much people, far too much noise, far too cold - but it is nice to chat with friends where you do not have to explain yourself... the plain in joburg left 2h too late, therefore i missed the connecting flight to berne so i had to fly to geneva and then with the train to biel. i finally arrived after a 23h travel. my sister fetched me from the train station and we went straight to see our dad and sister and everyone from the close family. aftr this i received my dad's wife car and i drove to lyss to meet 4 friends at the bar ... read more

Hello all! Just got an email from Helen Holly Hoff this morning instructing me to write more often for you ... so strap on the safety harness cause here we go. Quick note: I was up until 130 in the morning last night going through wedding photos so I may or may not make much sense ... and go on irrevelant tangents ... or just pass in and out of consciousness. I guess I should be the one getting the harness out. Alright .... Since I last wrote there have been plenty of exciting events that have taken place ... most of them I can't remember but I'm trying my best right now. First one that comes to mind... Made it out to a pretty cool area about a 2 hours drive from the Village near ... read more

In our middle weekend at the Foundation, we were allowed to take a few days to go on a Kruger National Park trip. Fiona and I had been excited about this ever since our last game drive on the tour, and we knew Kruger would be really good - we weren't wrong! There were 5 of us (the 5 Spice Girls infact, haha) going, and we were picked up right from our front door in the 4x4 that we would be in for the next 3 days. Although it was a 2 hour drive to the entrance to Kruger, we'd barely driven for 20 minutes before we saw our first wild animal... A dung beetle rolling his ball of dung across the main road! We also saw a herd of buffalo and some warthogs at the ... read more

Wednesday morning was another early start as we had to be packed and ready to leave at 5am so that we could be at the park gates for opening at 5.30am. We got into the park via the Orpen gate and proceeded to the campsite so that we could meet up with the rest of the group who had started their tour a day earlier. Having dropped our bags into the site we jumped into the safari jeep and set off for the day. The day consisted of a continuous drive only stopping for breakfast lunch and dinner. Also when we returned to the campsite at 4.30pm we were collected again at 5pm for a sunset and night drive. Thursday had the same routine as the day before without the night drive and also the weather ... read more

So it was a ridiculously early start on Tuesday morning as I set off for the Kruger National Park. I was the first to be collected and the driver of the minibus told me that there were 6 people on the tour. By 11am we had collected everyone and we were on our way to Graskop for our lunch before heading down to God's Window, Blyde Canyon and the three Rondavels. Over lunch everyone introduced themselves. There was Martin from Sweden who was on a three week holiday, two girls from Sweden (whose names I never really caught) who were travelling for the next three months and were at the end of their trip in Africa and headed to Asia next and then the was Arvand and Suzie. Arvand was from Belgium and Suzie, his girlfriend, ... read more

Since my last entry I: -Had my 21st Bday -Started my own garden -Dealt with the biggest spider I have ever seen -Went to a mall that rivals Chinook Centre in size (this is where I bought a new phone) Now you can choose if you wish to continue reading... Alright ... my bday! Super awesome! Some of the guys I'm working with took me out for dinner and some drinks. Had an awesome time and got some awesome gifts! The place we went for dinner has a special birthday policy ... your choice of a kiss or a free shot. Helen I tried as hard as I could for the kiss but they gave me 2 ... read more

Hello Everyone! First off ... my bad. I realize it has been 3 weeks and I haven't updated this since I left Canadia. Lets Move on... AFRICA! After a journey that took me 2 days, my entire iPod battery, a few pints of beer, and 2 sleeping pills I arrived here in South Africa. I'm staying just north of Neilspruit, a super developed little city with a gigantic mall to it's name. Look it up on a map. I'm not even sure what to write because I have been here 3 weeks already! Hard to believe. I arrived a few days before the "official" Hands at Work orientation began so I had some time to meet all the new volunteers around and some of the people that make this place run ... smoothly? Everyoneis grrrreat and ... read more

Der ganze park zusammen mit südafrika, mosambik und simbabwe heisst jetzt the great limpopo transfrontier ... read more
