Hola! So I caught the Intercape bus at 6am from Cape town and many hours and gorgeous scenery later I arrived in Wilderness (well there is no bus that goes there so i had to get off in George and get a taxi..). The weather was beautiful and I stayed in a little backpackers right by the beach. My balcony had the most amazing view and the first time I looked out there were 4 southern right whales basking and playing in the sun right near the beach, brilliant! If anyone is a birdgeek like myself they should go to Wilderness! The birds are so many and they are beautiful! I did a few trails and met a lot of old people...of course forgot my binoculars in the backpackers..but it was a good day or two. ... read more

Stayed only one night at Dijembes Backpackers in Storms River. The only reason we went there was because we wanted to go horse back riding. But the horses were getting their flu shot and could not be ridden for a few weeks after that. =( Instead we went for a hike in the forest with a German girl and a South African woman. Hike... pfft... We chose the 5km track and felt that would be a good distance. It was too short! *haha* The German girl we took the walk with lived at another hostel and after dinner we took a walk over there. It was pitch black let us tell you! Could barely see the road. But we could see a million stars instead. The sky down here.... it takes your breath away! In the ... read more

Hey party-people, was geht?

19th March, Nature’s Valley, Garden Route Hey hey hey!!! How are you guys doing? Hope all is well!! So... it would seem i’ve gone and broken my foot, which was a bit silly and wholly inconvenient! It was way back in Coffee Bay, surfing. I caught a wave and surfed the white water all the way to the shore and stubbed a toe hopping off. It hurt like hell at the time but I didn’t get a bruise or any swelling to show for my pain so I figured it would soon pass. It didn’t and has eventually swollen. Obviously a responsible person would have seen a doctor by now but there are so many things that I want to do that I’d not be able to if I were in pot. So I’ll get it ... read more

6 Nov - drive to Tsitsikama. En route we stop off at Jeffrey's Bay aka J'Bay. Few hours to explore, walk along the beach, watch the surfers then shop. There's a Billabong factory outlet - for 330 Rand (approx GBP 25) I get a lilac tshirt, skirt and board shorts!! We have lunch at a picnic site on the beach - our best lunch view to date. Arrive at Tube n' Axe backpackers at Storm River mid afternoon, set up camp then drive to the highest bridge bungee in the world. This ain't for me...I'll jump out of a plane, but don't make me bungee :) The brave (or stupid) ones are Miho, Peter, Charlie and Nav while the rest of us support from the bar. Looks horrendous but they all seem to enjoy the adrenalin ... read more

I think that the highest bungy jump in the world deserves its own entry. I have just been unable to watch the DVD or think about it until now. This is how it goes,we opted to take the Flying Fox slide to get to the bungy site,so you start of by getting kitted up and then walk along a snake ridden path (there are signs all over warning you about snakes),to the under side of the Bloukraans bridge. You climb onto a platform and your harness gets strapped to the cable, and you push yourself off and off you go across the water, under the bridge,to the middle, where the bungy site is. That in itself was rather terrifying. Then, you are made to sit down while your feet are “secured”.This involves a boy scout knot type ... read more

Tsitsikama was one of the trip highlights! It's only too bad we didn't have more time here. Unfortunately the trail to the famous Storms River Mouth was closed due to unsafe conditions. It's supposed to be the one thing not to miss here; oh well, gotta save something for next time. Instead we hiked the first 3km of the famous Otter trail. A beautiful hike along the rugged coastline with amazing views. One day we will have to come back and complete the full 5 day hike. It's hard to get tired of watching the surf roll in and crash against the rocks - and even harder to stop taking photos of it. We even saw a pod of dolphins playing in the waves.... read more

Hi Everyone Been a while since I've had the time to sit down and add an entry, been so busy seeing things and getting up to no good. Was at a casino on Sunday night and I won R700 which was great, I was the only winner out of crowd, was nice to rub it on on those who lost a bit, nah nah nah nah nah (Blows a Rasp!). Rest of this week and been hectic, been to several beaches along the coastline, been to play with the monkeys at MonkeyLand and had a very friendly parrot on my shoulder for a good half hour as we strolled around the local bird sanctuary - Birds of Eden in Plettenberg Bay, only thing was on his departure he left me with nice little present down the ... read more

Moving on again - this time along the Garden Route to Storms River, where we will be staying for the next few days. Had a bit of a disaster along the way - the tyre blew out on the car around 2 miles from Neil’s Aunt’s house - we had to unload the entire contents of the boot on to the hard shoulder of the N2 motorway and change the wheel . Arrived at Ken and Corrie’s very greasy and grubby and bedraggled. We’re staying in one of their cottages. Storms River is a real eye opener - its a very small typical African village with very few amenities (none at all!) but it seems to be so popular with tourists... read more

This weekend, I went to Storms River with Tracie, Jess, Caitlin, Emily, and Wayne - the driver from the Gaol. The village is located just outside Tsitsikamma National Park, and there are a ton of cool hiking trails through the forest. But the major reason for our trip was to jump off of the Bloukrans Bridge. The third highest bridge in the world, it crosses over the Bloukrans River and is also the site of the world’s highest bungee jump. At 216m tall (around 710 feet), there’s about 7 seconds of free fall, and apparently the drop after the first rebound is even bigger than the second highest jump in the world. We arrived at the site pretty early in the morning; didn’t want to sit around all day being nervous about it haha. I really ... read more
