Uhuu! Time for the first weekend. We decided to go to Jeffrey's bay. We are with 11 girls so had to rent 3 cars to get there. Car rent isvery easy and cheap to do, just next to the supermarket where we always go for groceries. It took around 3 hours to get to our destination point but it was definitely worth it. The appartment is very nice, wish we could have something similar in Stenden. We arrived in the evening and had a lovely dinner in the Mexican restaurant just along the street. Next day started with a beach. It is not really possible to swim there because of the ways but it is the perfect place for surfers or people who just want to sunbathe and cool down in the water (like us). The ... read more

Another long bus ride I arrived for some camping in Jeffreys Bay. A famous surf town, seemingly too quiet to be called famous, but Im told famous enough as the constant waves called supertubes are a haven for South African surfers. Well it rained here for a million days so I didn’t get to do much. But there was a live act at the bar/food area one night and these dudes were kind enough to give me a lift to a place on the Bloukrans River. Whats here you ask? Well none other than the World’s Highest Bungy Bridge!!!!!!! 216 meters = 709 feet. WOA! Those of you in Fargo must know that the Raddisson is a mere 206 feet. Hahahahahahahahaha…I did it! Too fun. So awesome. I would recommend it to anyone J Had enough ... read more

With the many surfer outlet stores(Rip Curl, Billabong,...) in the town and the overload of surfers on one wave, it was quite obvious we arrived in surfers paradise! Watching sunrises and sunsets, dorm with view on the sea, beachwalks, some plays of table football and some glasses of wine in the sun with a game of cards. Relax, sun, hot surfers to watch surfing and some wine, just perfect!... read more

Today was another day off and we weren't going to leave early. Oh man I was so excited! I actually got to sleep in! It didn't really work because I just wake up early now, but I got to stay in my bed until 730. Then I cleaned the room and got ready because Delano was picking us up at 815 to head out to Jay Bay. Once we got there, we ate breakfast at this steak place that sold like 5 different breakfast plates but hey, it was actually good. I had a bacon and egg sandwich with french fries. I guess its just potato, like hash browns but I thought it was weird to eat fries in the morning. When everyone was finished with breakfast, we had free time. Most of us chose to ... read more

We left Midrand on the Intercape for Jefferies bay looking for some sun (not so hot that we would sweat everywhere we walked) and to rest properly (unlike Uganda and up in northern part of South Africa where we felt we had to look over our shoulders all the time). We got on the bus, found our seats and were amazed to see that the extra money we had paid for safety had also gone towards leg room and air-con, a must on a 17 ½ hour drive. The bus was 5 minutes late but that would be the least of our timings worries, with the bus stopping 3 times in the first 2 miles of our journey each time stopping for 2 hours to look in the engine, just to move a little bit more ... read more

Wow… (pause to catch a breath). This past week has been unbelievably fun, exciting and knackering. It all started by picking the girls up from the airport. Meg and I left at 11 30am from Jeffery’s bay planning to get to the airport in plenty of time to read our books and to get a little lunch… that didn’t happen. We got a taxi that would take us to Port Elizabeth for cheap but it wouldn’t take us to the airport, that was fine as the driver had clear instructions as to how to get to the airport using 2 other taxis. Our first stop was a shopping mall, which I got told that there was a huge Christian bookshop there and I bought ‘The Jesus I never knew’… good read. We left the mall perhaps ... read more

K - Some time ago I alluded to my newly formed elephant phobia. This is one of the causes.....this photo is not zoomed. We had just engaged in a Mexican stand-off with this large Bull elephant from about 3 meters. You do not reverse away from an elephant that close (well, you don't do it twice!) and because 3 other cars had already blocked the road in front we were unable to move past it. Instead we were locked eyeball to eyeball waiting for one of us to do something. Finally I guess the elephant blinked first - moving towards us before neatly sidestepping us and walking sedately through an improbably small gap millimeters from our wing mirror. This was our second close encounter in Etosha (Namibia) and is about the last time I saw an ... read more

Saturday 4-2 Today is our longest driving day in South Africa: over 700km. We got up early and were on the road by 5am (ugh). But we got to East London by about 3:30pm – so, not too bad. There’s seriously not much to see in East London, so we headed to the movie theater and saw Hall Pass. You could definitely take a “pass” on this movie. Very predictable and over the top – that’s how starved we’ve been for movies. We did watch a little bit of the cricket world cup final, though – yay for India! Sunday 4-3 to Monday 4-4 Headed to Port Elizabeth and Jeffrey’s Bay today. Man, South Africa is absolutely dead on Sundays! Nothing was open. We stopped in Port Elizabeth to get a bite to eat and practically ... read more
