May 2017 Gonja - Funali - Lobi Feeling our work is done in the south, Kirk and I have been traveling the Northern Regions of Ghana searching for our new home land. We think we have found it. Recently, we took a family trip to the northern town of Damongo. We all fell in love with the tribes and local missionaries. The Lord willing, these three northern tribes will soon be our new neighbors! The Gonja people are asking a lot of questions concerning the gospel. There are few who have the biblical answers to give. In their villages churches are far and few between. Several villages have no church at all. Each and every chief we met asked us to return and stay with his people and teach the gospel message. Kirk certainly has his ... read more

Jamestown is the oldest part of Accra where the British set up their first encampment. Today it is a poor, chaotic fishing village within a bustling city. Ladies preserve fish by smoking them and then sell the fish in the street. The heat and the smells are challenging. There are beaches in Ghana, long sandy beaches pounded by Atlantic waves. But there are few beach resorts and few tourists. We stay in one resort which is a little rundown but run well by smiling, helpful staff. We sleep to the sound of the surf. There are also slave castles on the coast, established by the British, French and Portuguese. Walking round the places where slaves were interred, processed and shipped out is chilling. Africans capturing their fellow natives for money. Europeans shipping them out for money ... read more

Two days of flying and we are in Accra. It's dark, hot and humid. We are greeted by Armstrong, brightly dressed, helpful and smiling. The hotel is cool, the bed soft. In the morning we are greeted by more smiling, helpful people. In the hotel, in the street, in the market. We wander through the city to the coast - no real beach in Accra, just a rocky shore. Everywhere ladies sit on the roadside selling food, stationery, hardware, clothes. Ancient minibuses rattle past, hooting and belching diesel smoke. It is over 30 degrees and the humidity is near 100%. We don't so much sweat as melt. The next day we are off to the Millet Festival at Odumase. We arrive just as the parade of chiefs is starting. First come the lowest ranking chiefs, walking ... read more

Life in the city of Kumasi; We went to check the post office to check the mail one day last week. We parked in the front of the building … had to walk around the block and up a flight of stairs just to find the section that our box is in. Searched for our # in the sea of boxes. Inside we found a little purple slip directing us to a desk for our package. So, back around the block we walked. The grumpy fella behind the counter said we had to present ID (our first picture ID didn’t satisfy him so we had to come up with another one). In addition, we are required to write our names, physical address and phone number on the back of this little purple slip. Mr. Grumpy disappeared ... read more

Oh Dear ... It seems I have forgotten how to use this blog! It use to be so easy. I have several photos to show you ... but how I get them from the upload area to the post is a mystery to me. I actually have no idea how I got the two of these posted. :) So I figure it's better I get this entry out to you now and fiddle around with this site later. We are excited to partner with the leaders of YWAM Ghana! We are working closely with Lewis & Becky Roberts, a Ghanaian couple we have known for several years. Kirk oversees students in their afternoon work duties and is a well loved lecturer in the discipleship school. Christine’s time is spent home schooling Praise, assisting students on a ... read more

Ghana. A wonderful Special place that I've been to. You cannot beat the weather, beat the attractions off the beaten path. Very spectacular. And eveyrone should put Africa on their travel list or their bucket list just to see what it's like to live and travel to Africa because it's not the same as traveling and living in the USA. A town of wonderful animals as well as looks like a real safarai that's so different than you normally see on television. This is almost simliar to the Caribbean Islands. Everyone should check out the safaris and the animals in Ghana. Those features are what make Ghana a possibility. That what makes this place very interesting. If you notice, the Africa Continent is almost simliar to the Caribbean Region I've dominated in my travels. The two ... read more
