The one about the damn bug bites.

Not writing every night poses some interesting problems for me. But, there’s no such thing as problems, only solutions, and this is mine. I keep notes on my adventures, I check my credit card receipts so I remember things, and I look at my app, SWARM, to remind me where I’ve been. It’s been 3 days since I have written, and trying to put it all in chronological order is probably beyond my old and addled brain. So, my solution is treat the 3 days as one day and write about the interesting things, forgetting about putting them on the right day or in the right order. Author’s prerogative.

Ginnie called me very early the morning I left Lake Louisa to let me know the campsite next to her was still open. I quickly showered, realizing that I have bug bites on my arms and legs, about 5 each appendage. So much for camping near a lake. GROWL. I broke camp easily and was on the road by 8:30, having walked Winston quickly and just unplugging my electric cord.

When I got to Thousand Trails, Orlando, I was amazed to see no other RVs checking in. I went into the office and there was no one there. The puzzled look on my face caused the clerk to comment, “Look at all these check ins today and you are the 2nd . There appeared to be about 50 files in her upright. I went over to look at the ‘available’ board and lo and behold, the site next to Ginnie was still available. Yay! The clerk was amazed such a good site was and had been open for a few days. Irish Luck!

I called Ginnie and told her I was on the way and she helped me back in and generally get settled. Good to see her and her boys, 2 Dobermans, one black, one white, Linus and Alfie, who Winston tolerates and even plays with sometimes.

The rest of the day was spent leisurely setting up my campsite and greeting old friends and saying hello to all.

A brief trip to Walmart where I purchased a DVD player for under $30. Red Box is less than a mile away, and I have a number of DVDs in my stash to choose from. It fits exactly perfectly in Moya’s built in compartment and works just fine. I remember how expensive these things used to me, and feel like I stole it for $30. A Sony!!.

Kim and Ginnie travelled to TT together from NJ. Ginnie is here for 3 months, Kim is here for 4 or 5 months. Kim was toting a new dog!!! A white Maltese. Someone in the campground gave it to her on Saturday. Huh? A couple, seasonal renters here, were walking around looking for a home for their dog, which they acquired from someone in August, and didn’t want anymore. Kim, despite the fact that they never asked her name or her campsite #, said she would take him. His name had been Jersey, converted to George, and Kim put it back to Jersey, seeming like a good thing for the Jersey girl to do. I scratched my head. Who gives a dog away to a complete stranger without asking her name…….They had his bag of food and bowl in a bag, as well as his vet and breeding papers. They gave her his collar but not his leash. She carried him home and introduced him to his new siblings, a Siamese cat, an 8 year old MalShiPoo and a 16 year old whose breed I can’t remember. A really nice menagerie. A cute dog, but yappy as Malteses are. Thinks he’s as big as the Dobermans’. Pees on everything. I am still scratching my head. So, Kim is going to see if Jersey fits into her life style and family, and make a decision down the road a little bit.

I slept fitfully. These bug bites are AWFUL. I scratch them while I am sleeping, then wake up and scratch some more I use one of those AFTER BITE sticks, which basically is ammonia, and it really does work, despite the smell. I exercised in the RV. I bought new 5 pound leg weights, use both on my arms to make 10 pounds, 5 on the legs and went thru my strength and stretching routine. Somehow the limited sit-ups I go thru in the morning actually make my stomach pain seem less throughout the day.

The 3 of us took a trek to Camping World, about 15 miles away, and I spent money. I had to buy a new water hose as the one I have been using since I started RVing bulged in a spot and split, and I just didn’t trust it any more to not split thru the whole way and leak. I looked at new heaters. I have 2 already. Both work fine but are noisy. I looked at those that simulated fireplaces, costing about $50 up to $300, and decided not to invest – why, when I had 2 perfectly good ones to chose from, albeit noisy.

I got a phone call from Cheryl. She is a member of Loners on Wheels who I have met at several campouts in NC. She remembered that I frequented Thousand Trails and she is here at this park. I invited her over for happy hour and introduced her to Ginnie and Kim and we had fun getting to know more about her. Our non single friends, Pete and Annette also stopped by and the laughter was often and loud. I am leaving TT Wednesday to spend 3 nights with daughter Kristine and her family at their hotel in Disney World. (That story is for another days’ blog.) I am looking forward to spending more time with baby grandson Hudson and 9 y/o grand daughter, Maggie, at one of my favorite places, DWorld. It will be an awesome few days.

It’s time to start planning the mini Mineola High School Class of 1964 mini FL reunion. I spent time emailing to the 230 classmates we have email addresses for. Sure hope some people want to attend!!

As I write this, some of these blasted bug bites are the size of quarters. I have 5 in a row on my right calf that are very nasty looking. Yuck. One is on the ring finger of my left hand, making it so swollen I can’t wear my ring. Misery.

I am going to sign off for a few days. I will catch up when I return from my Disney Adventure.

Kat Out. I am not sure I like this way of writing. It seems to flow better when I write daily, and I get to talk more about the strange and wonderful people and sights I see.

Bug Bites
I feel your pain. On my first RV trip with Darrell, I stepped on an ant hill and literally got ants in my pants. They bit me around the ankles and up by legs to me knees. Not a happy camper that night! I am giving it another try in February when we go to Fort Lauderdale to visit my Chicago friends who are vacationing there. Hope to take a few extra days on the return and go through some of the Panhandle. Enjoy Disney.
