Someone famous once wrote " We saw stars and waves, we saw sand too, and despite many crises and unforseen disasters, we were often bored, just as we are here." People travel the world in search of adventure and happiness, but no matter where they are and who their with on this rock, the universal restlessness of the human spirit prevents them from being completely satisfied.

Some would say that if travel and adventure only create a a thirst for more travel then why not stop, save your money, find someone to love and get on with the natural progression of life: marriage, a pet chinchilla, divorce, fighting over custody of the chinchilla, etc... Maybe one day that will make sense for me. But for now, I'm ok with existing to feed that constant hunger for adventure.

I've written things about Chinchillas that give the indication that I am afraid to settle. I was beginning to think that I was destined to be a wanderer, but now I am revelling in the joys of adulthood; home ownership, potluck suppers, and adult contemporary furniture.

On a lazy morning in late fall I finally stop to take stock of where I am and where I am going. The last 4 months off the road have been glorious. Real friends have replaced the temporary companions of the backpacker trails, sunshine replaced the cold winters of Australia and New Zealand, and my lonliness has been replaced by a lovely girl who still hasn't figured out that she is too good for me. I live the relaxed, if uncertain, existance of a substitute teacher who appreciates Canadian children because he has seen the dark side. If this was it, and life never got better or worse, I would feel content.

And yet, here I am making plans to move once more; applying for teaching jobs abroad and hoping to be a resident of a random foriegn and yet unamed country by September 2007. You probably won't here from me until then... Assume I am spending my mornings drinking coffee, playing nintendo and reading novellos, spending my evenings in the arms of someone who loves me, and eating and drinking carbohydrates by the case in preparation for Regina's long and cold winter...

Remember how cool the california raisins were? Kris you have a nice tash there, it looks like it might even be natural with a little "just for men" touch. PS what is a chinchilla

So happy for you Kris..and I'd like to think that I'm more of a 'real friend' than a temporary companion despite our distance! Someday you never know, we could be neighbours!! ha! Great to hear you're so well and happy mate. And you know, Oman is where the money is at eh? You taking this lovely girl with you then? Miss you x
