After a simply phenomenal few months I will be heading towards the Suvarnabhumi Airport in four hours to start my long trek home. I'm covered with mosquito bites, bruises, a tan, and as what has gotten to be a usual thing, a thin layer of dried sweat. The last few weeks have been really nice down south in Railay and it was a wonderful way to cap off a really good experience. It's been almost three months since being home and I am preparing myself for something like a seventy degree difference in the temperatures. I fully expect that the cold prarie air is going to hit me like a brick wall and leave me gasping for air. It will be a nice homecoming. Now the question I am posing myself right now is do I ... read more

After an extremely confusing day of trying to get to Krabi I got to Krabi a few mornings ago. I got lost for about an hour in Nakhon Prathom after an ill assumption but things got sorted out for the best. Ao Nang is a tourist resort-y place and it's very expensive and I am only going to spend one night here. My goal today is to find another book to read which I believe is can be attained rather easily. I feel as though I've lost my motivation to do any adventure type things but it also might have to do with the fact that i'm on a serious serious budget because i'm dead dead broke and i've just spent two days budget on a room for one night. I'ma need a job right ... read more

Driving through the Thai countryside almost reminds me of driving through Saskatchewan to Alberta. With the exception of the trucks of durian passing by, oh, and the palm trees. Kanchanburi is good thus far. I am staying at the Jolly Frog guesthouse, I just had a nice red curry, there is hammocks out back, and i'm still alive. Everything seems to be in order. Good for me. Last night I got lost on the streets of Ayuthaya and had to fetch a tuk tuk back to where I started (the night market) because I had forgotten the name of the guesthouse I was staying at. Again everything seems to be in order. I miss all y'all and I know the next few weeks are going to go by faster than I think. Take that internet! -d. ... read more

Yesterday I briefly considered sticking my disgusting backpacker feet into a pair of six hundred dollar Kate Spade shoes. I decided against it and instead bought a pair of really nice less-expensive-than-Kate-Spade shoes and was up half the night excited about wearing said shoes and thinking about outfits I can wear with the shoes when I get back to the freezing cold. I've unloaded a bunch of my gear on Robin to take home so I now actually can fit things into my backpack. This is also exciting. Even more exciting still is the prospect of travelling alone for three weeks. Did I say exciting? I think what I meant was kind of terrifying. But i've seen How To Deal starring Mandy Moore a few times so I think that means I know how to deal. ... read more

#1. Germans! #2. being surrounded by drunken Swedes and thinking back to a year ago when the very idea of this happening would be completely ridiculous. #3. swimming in water near an island that looks like something i've only seen in pictures. #4. I had a great barbequed white snapper the other day. #5. accurately describing the slight differance between Tim Tams and Penguin bars to an Australian guy (no he is not a bartender) and last but not least.. #6. Getting the best seat on the bus ride from the Thai-Cambodian border to Siem Reap. Angkor Wat will be seen for the next three days and i'm looking forward to it because ruins are way cool.... read more

I've never had such a good tan before ever in my life, but I suppose that is what I get for spending my days sitting on a beach and swimming in the clear blue waters of the gulf of Thailand. I'm having a nice time here in Ko Chang, I would be having an even better time if it weren't so expensive here. But I came prepared to ask my mom and dad for a loan, so I now have a few extra dollah bills to spend. I've been spending a lot of time reaquainting myself with the talking heads, I personally believe that Remain in Light is one of the best albums of the eighties. I'm sick to death of most of the music I have on my ipod, I mean really, how many times ... read more

Robin and I went our seperate ways for a bit. Here I am in Ko Chang and as far as I know he's in Bangkok doing god knows what. After an excrutiatingly long bus ride or two followed by a short boat trip and sandwiched in between to short taxi rides i'm here. It's alright so far I guess. I wish Robin was here. I think he's meeting me here in a few days. I took a walk on the beach after I left my stuff in my room. It then occured to me as I was walking that I have never once seen a proper tropical beach. What shocked me the most was that the water was warm. Warm! Can you believe it? It is not the frigid waters that I know and love back ... read more

Number one: take malaria pills with food other wise you'll be rendered nauseous on the bathroom floor. Number two: a facial astringent is a must. Number three: take as much baht and US Dollars over the border into Laos, ATMs are hard to come by. Number four: remember your USB cable when you fly away from your home because then you might be able to show people shit you've been taking photos of. AND Number five: when it says "lao style pate" it means spam-style pate (in the style of spam). Laos is great minus the money issue but I think i'll be alright for another few days with the baht and USD I have left. Like it says above i've started my malaria pills and oh man I should have remembered the saying "eat toast ... read more

So I did it, I rented a scooter. It turns out that i'm terrible at riding a scooter, but holy shit was it fun. Robin and I along with our American friends rented scooters and drove all over hells half acre. I wasn't so good at riding in town with said scooter but as soon as we got on the open road it was a lot of good times and smooth sailing. We road past many many picturesque scenes but of course I did not have my camera with me. Even if I did I would have run out of batteries instantly. We stopped and had drinks at a restaurant called cafe del doi which is known for their deck overlooking the valley to watch the sun set. It was spectacular and again I wish I ... read more

So I was busy watching Titanic on the television I have in my room at the guesthouse, which is more like a kind of nice riverside resort than a guesthouse, and just when it was getting good (the part where the ship splits in half) the channel suddenly goes all crazy and switches programming to a weird Thai singalong music video show. Geez louise. There seems to be a lot of shirts that say "do nothing in pai" up here in Pai, and I tell you, that's what I seem to be doing. There really is nothing at all wrong with doing nothing, but for me I feel like I feel when i'm back home in Regina and unemployed. Kind of like a useless sack of goo. At the same time as I feel like a ... read more
