There are 85 photos in this blog site for Venice.

We arrived in Venice Italy on Saturday morning May 17 with blue skies and great views of the area. We had booked in at a B&B in Mestre just a few miles away by bus or rail to the island of Venice. Since we arrived early in the morning, we found a location at the railway station to stash our gear for 4 hours until the time to head to Mestre. We had purchased a 3 day pass that gets you on all the bus, rail and water transportation in the Venice area. It doesn't take too long to figure out the transportation system since everything is "almost" self explanatory. You do have to pay close attention to which way the vaporettos (water bus) are going related to your destination so you don't take the long way around. It is an interesting system and they've got it down very well, you just have to jump on, and hope you picked the correct water bus based on signage at the water bus stops, etc. If you chose wrong just get off and start over at the next one. Anyway we spend the better part of 5 hours that first day just riding the water buses, walking around the area and just doing the tourist thing. It was really cool being in a place where you are surrounded by water and instead of cars, you have water buses, water taxis, police boats, ambulance boats, and boats carrying baggage/commodities/etc.

Without much more to add to this blog, we just spent the three days immersed in the culture laid out in front of us. Tried to use the little Italian we knew - I love "Ciao" for goodbye. Think we're going to start using that back home. Food and drinks are good here just have to read the menus well to ensure you know what you're getting. Some will explain, if they can speak English well enough, some menus have a translation for the items in English and some you can figure out. We had perfect weather again for our time spent in Venice. I would say 3 days is what you need to see Venice, Murano and some of the other nearby islands. Murano is definitely a place to see all the glass that is made there. It only takes about 15 to 20 minutes by water bus depending on how many stops. So hope you enjoy the photos on the site. Ciao!

Nice!
Well done, Larry. Your photographs and commentary are great, and most appreciated, but, I'm wondering when you sleep. Have fun, you two, and please keep up the good work.

Pictures
Yep - I do sometimes stay up late to put pictures on the site, but then again it's because Rhea wants to stay out till the wee hours - it seems like. Just wait when I get a new Nikon camera and we'll see how future trip photos turn out - of course with some professional advice from you. Still working with Rhea on picture setup - avoiding unnecessary items in the photos, lighting, etc. Not just point and click.

Great Pictures~
Wow, you guys are taking some great pictures. . .so clear and well lit. I love the idea of traveling around Venice--although one of my friends complained that Venice is "all churches and glass shops."

Venice
Venice did have lots of churches and I'm sure plenty of glass shops because of Murano island but we are not shoppers. We just enjoyed the walking through the small alley ways, small streets and trying to get away from the mass of people congregated in really popular places.

World Travelers
Boy, you two are covering some territory! Don't know how you figure everything out. I would still be stuck in Pelahatchie trying to speak to the natives. Enjoy!

These are extraordinary! I do want to see a slide show with comments and titles for the pics because I don't know every time what I am seeing. I love the last photo: self explanatory!

Great photos! Great planning and wonderful scenery. The architecture over there is unique. Guess my whitewater kayak would look weird in the canals. Looks like we have another place to add to our list. Travel safely. Chuck
