Tuesday in Paris has not been the best day of our trip so far. The weather Gods have finally deserted us and the day started overcast and cool, much the same as yesterday. However by about 1 or 2pm it had started to drizzle and by about 4pm it was raining steadily and it is now 7.30pm and it is still raining.
We left the apartment without our jackets and had to buy umbrellas at 6euro each and while they did the job they are very cheap and even nastier!!!!
Anyway the day started a bit later, AGAIN, as the bodies didn’t want to wake up too early due to waking several times during the night and not being able to get back to sleep. Might have been something to do with putting a load of washing in the washing machine as we went to bed, without fully realising just how noisy the dam machine would be.
Anyway once we got cracking we decided to head to the Eurail Help Desk at Paris North railway station to see if we could get something a bit different that the 8 train change trip to Rendsburg I mentioned yesterday, or at least confirm some bookings on the German leg of the train trip.
Nearly a hour was spent with a very patient and helpful young man who managed to get us on a straight through train with only 2 changes of train……Hallelujah!!!!!.....only drawback, it leaves Paris North at 6am and the metro doesn’t start running early enough to get us there so we will have to book a very early taxi. It cost a few more Euros but we get 1st class booked seats all the way to Hamburg with breakfast included, plus power plugs and wireless internet all the way. We left there feeling a lot happier as we only have to change trains at Koeln and Hamburg, much more manageable!!!!
Once that was out of the way we headed by metro back into the centre of Paris intending to go up some towers and do a boat cruise on the Seine but, or course, we had been either underground on the metro or deep inside the Paris North railway station for something like one and a half hours or so and when we emerged into daylight the weather had packed up and it got very wet and cold. Had to buy the umbrellas and gloves etc. it was so cold. So a sightseeing cruise on the river was not a goer and we instead spent the afternoon wandering around some shopping centres, souvenir shops and riding the ‘hop on, hop off’ bus around Paris again. We also fitted a very late lunch in there somewhere at a one of the what seems like thousands of Paris sidewalk cafes. We were sort of hoping that the weather might improve but it got steadily worse and worse which was a bit of a shame. However we can’t complain too much as we haven’t had bad weather yet on the trip so it had to happen at sometime I suppose.
We are heading for an early night tonight as we have to be on the metro at 6.15am to get to our pickup point for our day trip to London on the Eurostar. That will be an early start and a late finish as we don’t et back to Paris until around 11pm.
So that was Tuesday in Paris, spoiled a bit by the weather but a look on the internet shows that London is supposed to be fine, if a little cool, tomorrow and hopefully we can get a cruise on the River Thames done in reasonable weather. However we will be packing our jackets just in case!!
It will probably be Thursday (Paris time) when I next get something written down due to the late finish tomorrow so it’s BYE from us for today.
