Sunny days in Byron
Maroochydore is one of my favourite "suburban" places on the Sunshine Coast. Every time I have been there in the last 6 months I have had such a great time. The beach is fantastic, the people friendly, the food delicious and it always makes me dial down and relax. The added bonus this time of course that I am on a journey of a different kind. Staying in a camping ground filled with so many lovely people allowed me to form new friendships, mostly with the grey nomads, while having a captive audience which enabled me to get so much work. As always with my job it never really feels like work, especially when it only takes up a few hours a day and not everyday. I really enjoyed the chance to earn some extra cash because it affords me the luxuries on the road that I wouldn't otherwise bother with. The remainder of my days in Maroochydore were spent amongst friends, some of who went above and beyond what you would ask of new friendships...especially the day I dropped my keys in the toliet. With my dreaded fear of germs that reaches potentially certifiable levels, I had to call upon someone to help. With laughter around the campsite at my pained expression, Gary, a jovial man who is always up for a big night and plenty of laughs, followed me to the bathroom, where he walked straight in, stuck his hand down the toliet, grabbed the keys and preceeded to wash them thoroughly with soap. From there I carried the keys wrapped in toliet paper like I was holding prized jewels, back to my van where I soaked them in pineoclean and bacardi rum to disinfect them before their next need for usage. Yes I know I was acting like a princess, but I feel that this journey has me gradually becoming less 'girly' and high maintainence than ever, but putting my hand in a public toliet is not where I am yet...I'll toughen up as the trip goes on I'm sure.
Originally this trip up on the sunny coast was supposed entail work experience with the company I had trained in Scenar with over the last 6months. Well that didn't exactly go to plan as they only wanted me if I was planning on sticking around and if I would spend yet another thousand dollars training with them. So while this part of my journey wasn't what I had hoped for, I haven't felt in the least bit disheartened or disrupted actually, but rather I have enjoyed all the other great things that came along instead. As the door on Maroochydore has closed for now, I am doing a U-turn for the south again.
So today, here I sit in the back of Iris on my bed, while she is having some new engine mounts attached to hold her in place, after it is suggested that the drive through the snowy mountains may have taken its toll all those weeks ago now. Im in Brisbane again and stayed with friends last night, after it was decided a week ago I would head south to the lovely town of Byron Bay. My beautiful friend who lives there is picking me up today and together we are going to spend some quality time together while exploring parts of this region I missed during my previous visit. I am filled with excitement to be in Byron again, taking in the beauty of this small town with all its charm and also to have the opportunity to spend time with someone so special. After Byron I'm heading back up to Noosa for only a day or two as I complete my Senior First Aid (which bores me senseless) that is about to expire, which would render me un-insured with my naturopathic association, so this is a commitment I must fulfill. The one good thing is it will assist my brain function to study again as I fear all this relaxation and contentment has left me stupidly, blissfully ignorant...did I mention happy too.
