April 12th 2012

Today marks the 12 month aniversary of the beginning of my adventures across Australia. If someone had of told me a year ago that I would be in Melbourne living and working on this date 2012, it's likely I would have remarked "No way!" Don't get me wrong, I love Melbourne, this is an incredible city, vibrant and alive, and certainly a place where everything is at your finger tips...and be quick because it moves fast and loud. The ringing in my ears never stops as the noise of city life permeates my ears and the energy is high-intensity, which for a girl like me, is overwhelming at times. Despite the fact I have to walk-over homeless people begging for change daily, or try and dodge the excriment found on the footpaths, I enjoy the multicultural ... read more

February 1st 2012

2012 has gotten off to a great start. The New Year was spent with good friends while sweltering in the fantastic hot weather, and all of this continued as the days of January slipped by. A quick trip to the Riverland to see my beautiful friends Nicole, Daniel and their families, who feel like family to me, made me feel warm and fuzzy as the year started on such a great note. My birthday was great too, celebrating with old and new friends at The Bath, again basking in warm summer weather and a few cocktails too. Although the entire month of January has been great, the highlight has to be Melbourne. I enjoyed weeks of socializing, at the home of friends, numerous dinners at amazing restaurants and countless cupcakes on Degraves Street. Many big nights ... read more

December 14th 2011

This year I decided to play with the boundaries of normal social conduct, living like a gypsy and travelling around on my bus, Iris. Lord Henry Theraou once said, “I'd rather sit on a pumpkin & have it all to myself, than sit on a crowded velvet cushion.” I guess for me Iris was that pumpkin, although I wasn’t entirely alone as I shared so much of my journey, from near and far with another. It’s with deep gratitude that I realize that I wouldn't change that part now or revise sharing those bohemian memories with lost love as there is too much to be thankful for. While my heart broke deeply this year, I could never be regretful of this journey and all that it entailed, as I realize at best, that my truth of ... read more

Hard to imagine but this travel blog has reached its end for now. Further installments may follow, but I'm uninspired now which surely makes me uninspiring. The last 6months have been eventful. I may even say that they were some of the best months of my life...but most likely they were not. I left Port Douglas a week ago, since then I drove 1150km straight to Rockhampton where Iris brokedown on the side of the road in a thunderstorm. I left her there in the "trusty" hands of the RACQ who ripped me off blind. From there I flew to Brisbane, hired a car to go Byron, then 5days later drove back to Brisbane, flew to Rocky, only to continue the drive south to Byron...so here I am again, $2500 poorer but shit happens! This is ... read more

It's hard to believe that I have been in Port Douglas for 3 weeks now. The weeks have flown by as I have been entertained by this town I love so much. With rainforest surrounding this region, lush greenery everywhere and warm, sunny and even humid days, these are just some of the reasons my heart beats differently here than anywhere else I've ever been. To easily fill in my time here I have been spending it with friends, namely Sam and Eug and their two beautiful kids Eva and Coen, up here on holiday from Melbourne. Each day for a week I found myself at their hotel, by the pool or lazily lounging around the balcony, eating and often kicking back with a gin and tonic in hand. One night I babysat the kids, without ... read more

How things change as time rolls on...my adventures are starting to look and feel a little different now. After the non-adventure of Lucinda I rolled into Mission Beach and was pleasantly surprised to find a town that had what I was looking for. Sunshine, warmth, cafes and a vibe that suggested happy times are coming. To add to this, was a very long flat stretch of sand for me to begin my new exercise regime after packing on the pounds that follows many travellers as they eat their way through each destination. The sad thing about Mission is that it has been ravaged by the cyclone in February and what is left is a town struggling with tourism, not to mention ecological damages that is said will take 15 years to rectify. Worse is Dunk and ... read more

Today I sit under my annexe, close to the roads edge in the name of finding a small window of opportunity to be a part of cyber space. I'm in a town (if you could call it that) named Lucinda, north of Ingham. This place is so small that it only has this caravan park, a pub and a 'general store' which I can tell you has nothing much in it general or otherwise. With no consistent mobile, internet reception or TV reception, I figured I would while-away my days working however my flyers are constantly being pulled down and thrown in the bin by a guest so I'm told by the owners of the caravan park. With very little work for 4weeks now, I thought I would cheer myself up in this lonely town by ... read more

Friday last week I ventured from Yeppoon to Mackay to visit some friends from Adelaide. The long drive, which took 7hours in total including a stop along the Bruce Highway for lunch and a arvo nap in the back of Iris, was quite pleasant and scenic. The central coast of Queensland has quite an earthy appearance to it, with a real outback feel at times, ever reminded though that the coast in not far away if need be. Along the way I also had to give Iris a bit of once over as her oil light flashed at me, reminding me that I have not been attending to her as regularly as I should have of on this already 6000km trip of mine. Arriving in Mackay, I went straight to my friends Karen and Michaels place ... read more

Three months on the road is getting very close now and with the goal I set myself being 4months, it looks like I will do this with ease (hmmm did I just jinx myself???) I’m now in a town called Yeppoon, which many may never have heard of and to tell you the truth you aren't missing a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty little beachside town but it seriously lacks something and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Sure it’s possible my opinion was marred somewhat by the most disgusting fish and chips I’ve ever had in Cooee Bay (great Aussie name though) or maybe it’s from the lack lustre expressions on the faces of disinterested travellers I have met here. Whatever the case, there’s a good chance I ... read more
