Another new country...

hey everyone, I just got into San Pedro Sula after a 12 hour bus ride from Managua. I left Managua at 5am this morning and I just found a hotel here in San Pedro, and it´s about 6pm. I met a Dutch guy on the bus and we split a cab to a cheap hotel in downtown San Pedro, only about 4 dollars each. I have another currency to get used to, the limpera, it´s gets confusing when you are just getting used to one currency and then you have to switch exchange rates again. I was really sad to leave Nicaragua but I thought it was time to move on. I had a great time in Granada and I miss it already. I just really loved that country and there was still so much I didn´t see and do. Everyone says it is the safest country in Central America too, and I didn´t once feel anything but welcome and safe. I´m feeling really good about my Spanish after 5 days of school but I still have a very, very long way to go. Hopefully I will have time for some more school in Guatemala.

A few days ago in Granada we were all telling stories of who has been robbed where, the night before I had to go to Managua by myself. Where, by the way, the majority of the stories had taken place, with guns and people losing everything. But it was totally fine, I managed a a bus in and finding a cab without getting ripped off and splurged for a 15 dollar a night hotel a block away from the bus station. It felt like a world away from the crazy bus stations when I got to the hotel, it was in a nice little neighborhood away from the center of Managua. I felt guilty to be paying so much after I had only been paying 3 dollars I night for the last week, but it had a great pool and was nice and quiet, and it was only a 2 minute walk to the bus at 4:30am. I had my own room for the first time, and I even had a T.V., just what I need...

The bus ride from Managua to Tegucigalpa was really pretty, lots of dense, lush vegetation, tiny little shanty towns set back in the forest, and loads of banana and mango stands. There were a lot of mountains covered in a mix of pine trees, coconut trees, and thousands of other species. It was beautiful watching the sun come up behind the mountains. All through northern Nicaragua and southern Honduras the mountains and hills were all misty and had a bluish tint to them. There were people up early going about there days, attatching cows to carts, sweeping porches, getting water, you know, the usual monday morning activities. There were lots of farmers and cowboys out in the fields. Mom, I forgot to tell you I met a nurse in Granada who grew up in Oyen, her name was Audrey Volk. I thought Volk sounded familiar but I´m sure some of you must know who she is. It´s such a small world...Oyen of all places!

The border crossing was fine, although they searched every bag on the bus with dogs and everything so it took a while. I gave a little boy a dollar and he was my new best friend until we left.
Tomorrow I am going to see if I can go find a new camera somewhere and then head to La Ceiba so I can catch a ferry to Utila. I can´t wait to get on the island and go diving and relax on the beach again. It´s dark and rainy here, lots of thunder too but it´s still extremely hot. It feels wierd to be in another new country just like that. Well I am completely exhausted after two days of travelling, one more to go and then I´m home free for a while. Miss you, talk to you all again soon!!

been dreamin..
The Bay islands have backback hostels to 5Star. The sea is full of new and exotic creatures, Colours, plants and corral. A hammock at the seaside for a traditional siesta sounds right up my alley. I quess I've been dreamin...or?..maybe your writing is telling what I need to know to go from dreamin,,to doin,, I like the sounds and smells of the markets. The pure people energy. The kids with smiles. Keep up the blog with the feel for the people and the land they live in...matt

Small world eh???
Wow does that sound Canadian...well dear, we just are in the process of getting OVER part one of Braden's grad - tonite is the party (hmmm - we were dancing and partying until 4 this morning, but that wasn't THE party). Anyway - hope you are still having a great time and staying safe (wow does that sound old). Whitney is staying with me in Youngstown for the summer and working - hard too - so we go to see Gram weekly - Aunty Lee has a better memory than me so she printed off your blogs and gave them to Gram to read, she really enjoyed them. Anyway - just wanted to say hi and tell you we all love you... Aunty Cindy
