Okay, As explained earlier, the hotel computer isn´t exactly a champion when it comes to handling photos. So with a little bit of spare time, I´m in an internet cafe to upload some photos from the last few days. Cheers.

This park is about a 25 minute walk from our hotel, and is part of a long walkway overlooking the coast from an elevation of about 60 meters. We returned later in the evening, and the scupture was even more striking when lit.

This is a temple built around 400 Common Era, I think. It´s about two blocks long, and the city has grown up around it with thankfully, a fence around it to protect it.

Lima feels quite safe, in part from the large presence of several different police forces such as municipal, national, and ´tourist´ police. But in the lane beside the Presidential palace, we also walked by some riot police that were on standby, and at least two national policemen carrying machine guns. They received little trouble from our tour group.

We´re pleased to say that no tsunami got through on our shift, and we went to bed that night secure in the knowledge that we had done our part. Unlike on the other side of the ocean, the Peruvian authorities had ample time to prepare, and the road along the coast was closed for several hours. We never did find out if there was any flooding last night, but the road was open this morning.

The stack of applications to transfer into the Policia Nacional´s ¨Powered Paraglider Unit¨ must be two feet high. The tsunami alert gave this guy a nice reason to fly up and down the coastline for a couple of hours, then he had to head in at dusk, like the rest of us.

Lima seems more friendly to walk around than Santiago, partly because of the narrower tree lined streets. Unfortunately, this also makes for very congested traffic. Also, without a big metro system here, it´s very difficult to get across town in anything but a cab. Our guide yesterday said it is not uncommon to take 4 hours to get across the city. But there is an endless supply of these beat up, sometimes ridiculously painted buses. I think that they are privately operated, as opposed to municipal buses. On each bus is a guy riding shotgun who hops out and recruits passengers. Good idea not to accept advice from these dudes. They have a strong incentive to tell you anything you want to hear to get a fare from you. Fortunately, we don´t have a lot of reason to leave Miraflores for now. By comparison, Santiago´s metro system is fast and easy to use.

We had been after Abbey to get a trim, but she pushed back. Then out of the blue while I was getting a trim, she called for a new do. Here it is.

This was definitely worth attending. A huge park with probably twenty fountains lit up at night. One fountain is used to screen a huge laser light show that runs about ten minutes. Abbey also got soaked along with about 50 other kids in an interactive fountain. Unfortunately, we didn't get a lot of great photos in the dark.
