Paradise at Laguna de Apoyo...

Hola mis amigos, I just had the best few days at Laguna de Apoyo. What a wonderful place. The hostel I was staying at a few nights ago has a place called The Monkey Hut up at this volcanic crater lake. It was the perfect place, a beautiful big house set back in the palm trees, tubes, kayaks, a fun dock, perfect blue water, hammocks, really all you could ask for. We headed up there yesterday in the back of a pickup, 12 of us packed in there and drove up, and 5 of us stayed the night up there. It was so nice. There are kitchens to use so I brought my own food and had a great dinner and breakfast this morning before heading back to Granada. I went for a kayak this morning at sunrise, around 6:30am, it was great. The lake was so quiet and peaceful and the sunrise was awesome. You could here howler monkeys in the trees and all the birds were chirping away. Paradise if you could imagine it. I paddled around the lake while people were waking up, I saw some of the local kids doing laundry and washing in the lake this morning.
Yesterday involved a lot of swimming, tubing, eating, reading, kayaking, and of course, hammock-ing. You can imagine how hard my life has been lately. It was so hot up there during the day yesterday, I think everyone got burnt, but there was a perfect breeze at night time and we just sat around watching the sun go down to some good music, food, and drinks. The Australian couple that are working up there right now were great people too, and everything is on an honour system where you write down whatever you use (snacks, drinks) on a little piece of paper.
I like Granada a lot too, I wondered around the town a few days ago and it has a very nice feel to it. There are lots of nice churches and a cool Parque Central to hang out in and watch people. There is a crazy hectic market where anything and everything is sold. One little stand might have everything from avocados, to belts, to toycars and underwear. I have ventured in a few times to buy fruit and vegetables, you may also see children peeing on the street. Nice and sanitary...wash your veggies! There is music blasting from every corner where burnt CDs are sold. The lake front is nice too but it was very quiet when I went down there.
I stayed at The Bearded Monkey the first few days here and they had great, cheap food and a nice atmosphere, but it is pretty noisy in the dorms at night because everyone parties there at night. Today I moved to Hotel Oasis which I think I like better already, and there is a pool and free international phone calls 10min a day for guests.
I am signed up for school tomorrow, so I will spend at least 5 more days in Granada. I think it will be a great place to study despite the crazy heat. It is going to start raining any day now, I am kind of looking forward to it. It's sooo hot!!
I was thinking you should all come meet me and we'll rent out The Monkey Hut for awhile, come on, it would be less than 10 dollars a night for something that would cost hundreds at home. So I'll see you all there soon!
