No, the bandits haven't got us! (or otherwise known as Flagstaff, Route 66 & Needles)

Well, what to tell you. I think the fact that we only took one photo in Flagstaff says it all! It's not that it wasn't nice, in fact it was quite lovely. It reminded us a lot of Fernie, slightly bigger and a little more tired looking. I think it's just that having got used to taking photos of very beautiful places for the past two weeks, Flagstaff scenery just didn't match up. Fair enough there's a big hill there, with a ski resort and lots of outdoor shops, which we certainly made us of, but it didn't tickle our fancy like the National Parks. All in all, Flagstaff turned out to be a bit of an admin stop - the washing and drying got done, we recharged the propane, got some groceries, drank beer and played on the roundabout. Onwards to Needles via Route 66 and a stop at Mr D'z (very turquoise and pink) diner.

There's really not much at Needles (that we saw anyway). It's in the middle of the California desert and was a 'means to an end' stop for us. We wanted to get to the outskirts of LA but that was too long a journey and Needles was halfway. The most memorable things were the lovely Mike, who helped us out when we got confused with timezones (there are three in America) and the temperature - it was hot, hot, hot.

Great blog!
Hi guys, looks like you're having a great time out there! Fabulous mean machine - talk about a hotel on wheels! Puts our li'l ol' caravan to shame... We're very envious of you here; that's just the kind of trip we'd like to make. What a great range of scenery and weather you're going through, too. It's a bit like a running soap opera here, I print your entries off every night, or whenever they come in, and hand them over to Mum to read and she devours every word of course! It's an excellent way of communicating, much better than a postcard. Like any good soap, though, you're going to have to work up to a dazzling finale! Well, enjoy the rest of the grand tour, and we look forward to seeing you soon. Mum says you're back here at the end of May, so we'll have to plan a get-together then. Lots of love from us all to you all. xx
