Leider hat die Veroeffentlichung des letzten Blogs nicht ganz so funktioniert… daher kommt wohl dieser Eintrag ganz schoen schnell 😊

Haben uns trotz Kultur-Umstellung ganz gut eingefunden, aber wir waren ja beide schon in Asien und so wussten wir ja, was da auf uns zukommt 😊.
Wie immer ist nicht viel geworden aus unserem Vorsatz, es diesmal gemuetlich anzugehen - aber das is ja nix Neues, oder? So waren die 2 Tage in BANGKOK wieder mal ein wenig anstrengend: Latschen, latschen, latschen: Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Kao San Road etc… aber wir haben es immerhin geschafft, eine riesen Box aufzutreiben, in der wir alle schweren Sachen heimschicken konnten (war net viel, aber zumindest a bissi leichter als in Suedamerika - und billiger). Allerdings war eh die Post schon zu… aber am Montag waren endlich 13 kg weniger in unseren Rucksaecken (und die neuen Einkaeufe gleich auch noch). Ein MEGA Unterschied! 😊

Der Flug nach Chiang Rai hatte zur Abwechslung eine Stunde Verspaetung, aber naja… wir sind ja auf Urlaub! Irgendwie waren wir beide so fertig, dass wir mal beschlossen haben einen ganzen Tag nix zu tun, ausser Internet und Essen und ein bissi Recherche ueber die Route und natuerlich:

Und dann haben wir uns wieder mal auf den langen Weg ueber die Grenze gemacht. 06:30 Abfahrt zur Ausreise an der Thailaendischen Grenze, dann ueber den Fluss zur Einreise nach LAOS. Und dann weitere 8h Bootsfahrt ueber den Mekong nach BAK BENG, wo wir die Nacht verbrachten (eh keine andere Wahl). Und wenn wir uns eingebildet haben, dieses Boot sei schon ein wenig spaerlich ausgestattet (mit 10 gepoelsterten Sitzen und dem Rest nur Holzbaenken oder Bodenplaetzen) … so wurden wir am naechsten Tag eines besseren belehrt: Es wurden alle Gaeste, die sich am Vortag auf 2 Booten befanden, an diesem Tag auf 1 zusammengelegt. Und die komfortablen Sitze beschraenkten sich auf 6 Stueck (und obwohl wir freuh da waren, haben wir nur mehr einen ergattert). Und das fuer weitere 8h Mekong-River-Fahrt! Unsere Hintern waren platt und unsere Schaedl haben gedroehnt als wir endlich in LUANG PRABANG angekommen sind!
Ich nehm an, das bedeutete das Ende unserer Luxus-Etappe und den Wiedereinstieg ins absolute Backpacker-Dasein!😊
Luang Prabang ist wirklich herzig, also haben wir es auch dort 3 Tage ausgehalten (eh scho lang fuer uns, aber die Energie laesst ein bissi nach, haben wir schon bemerkt). Also sind wir einen

halben Tag ein bissi mit dem Radl rumgeduest (sooooo heiss und so ungemuetliche Sattel!) und haben 2 Touren an einem Tag gemacht: Zu der 4000 Buddha Cave und der Whiskey Village, wo wir aber ausser Handarbeits-Verkaufs-Staenden nicht viel von dem Whiskey gesehen haben (?) und - mit ein bissi Verspaetung, die diesmal nicht unsere Schuld war - zu den Huang Xi Wasserfaellen. WOW! Carina sagt, so sieht es im Paradies aus! Hab ich nichts dagegen einzuwenden, aber mich hat es ein bissi an die Bilder im Chinesen-Restaurant erinnert. 😊 Auf der Rueckfahrt noch ein Verkaufs-Strategischer Stopp in einem Doerfchen, wo wir zwar nichts gekauft haben, ich mal wieder aus Sozialgefuehl diesmal alle meine (so 3 oder 4) Haarspangerl hergeschenkt hab. Mehr hatte ich nicht eingesteckt.
Tja, und nach 9h Busfahrt nach VIENTIANE hatten wir beide eine Magenverstimmung und Carina auch noch Fieber, weswegen wir im Endeffekt 6 Tage blieben, was uns aber zum Abdampfen und Runterkommen ganz gut getan hat. Ist sonst noch wem aufgefallen, dass unsere Weltreise kulinarisch gesehen leider nicht so aufregend und abenteuerlich ausfaellt? Eine Schande, echt! Dafuer hatten wir genug Zeit zum Weiterplanen, da die vietnamesische Botschaft fuer die ganze naechste Woche geschlossen hatte (Neujahr). Man

Weiters hat Carina bei unserer letzten Analyse ueber "Warum sprechen uns dir ganzen Backpacker so selten an?" es so zusammen gefasst: "Na, wunderts di? Wir sind beide gross, blond und schlank und unser Gewand ist a no relativ sauber..." Tja, das bedarf wohl keines weiteren Kommentars...

We did adjust to the asian cultural difference quite fast, but since we’ve both been there before, we knew what to expect.
Just like always, our resolution of taking it easy didn’t quite work - but that isn’t anything new, is it? So our 2 days in Bangkok were just as exhausting as usual: walking, walking, walking: Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Kao San Road etc… but at least we managed to find a huge box to send all the unnecessary things home (not much, but at least a bit easier than in south America - and cheaper). big thing including the Thai-Market bought stuff home and suddenly had about 13 kg less in our backpacks - what a difference! 😊
Our flight to Chiang Rai was about 1h late, nothing new either… well, anyway, we are on vacation! Somehow we found our energies gone and so we just spent a whole day doing nothing except Internet, Eating, a bit of planning the route and of course: Massage! Soooo good!
And then we were already on the long way across the border one more time. 06:30 departure to the border for thai immigration and across the river for LAO Immigration. Then an 8h boat trip along the Mekong river with an overnight stop at BAK BENG (not other choice anyway). And if we thought that this boat was already minimum-equipped (with 10 comfy, soft seats and the rest wooden benches or floor-places) then we got to know better the next morning when all the guests who were on 2 boats the day before, were now stuffed into one (with only 6 comfy seats - and even though we were early we didn’t manage to catch one of them). Floating on the Mekong River

2 Tage am Mekong entlang plus 1mal uebernachtwen im Nigendwo... mit einem Haufen anderer Backpacker und natuerlich viel zu wenig Holz-Sitzbaenken... wemma das net gmacht hat, war man nicht in Laos!!! 2 days on the mekong river... if you haven't done this you haven't been to Laos....

flat and our heads ached when we finally arrived in LUANG PRABANG. SO I guess, that was the end of our luxurious travel part - we are back in the real backpacker-business!
Luang Prabang is a really nice and welcoming little town and so we stayed for 3 days one of which we didn’t do anything again (what the hell happened to our energy?) and then rode around a bit on rented mountainbikes (sooo hot and soo unconfy seats) and finally brought ourselves to do 2 tours in one day. We saw the 4000 Buddha Caves and stopped at the Whiskey village where we didn’t quite see any Whiskey but a lot of handicraft stands…(?). And with a bit of delay - which wasn’t our fault this time - we went to see the Huang Xi Waterfalls. WOW! Carina said this has to be what heaven looks like! I agree but it kind of remembered me of the pictures in our chinese restaurants 😊.
On the way back there was another selling & buying stop at a little village where we didn’t buy anythig but where I was overwhelmed by another social feeling thingy and gave away all my (3

Lunch

or 4 or so) little hairclips. Didn’t have any more, but for sure I would have easly goten rid of them too, 😊.
Well, and then, after a 9h busride to VIENTIANE we both had a little problem with our stomach and Carian even got a fever. We ended up staying there for a 6 days which wasn’t all to bad for recharging batteries and calming down a bit.
Did anyone notice that our world travel isn’t all too exciting and adventurous on the culinary side? What a shame, honestly!
At least we had enough time to plan the further route since we found out that the vietnamese embassy is closed for at least one more week due to their New Years celebrations. So I guess you can say we’ve seen Vientiane (Carina more form the inside though 😊).
Also, after our last analysis about the question why barely any backpacker talks to us, Carina summarized our conclusion as follows: ‘Why are you wondering? We are both tall, blonde and skinny and our clothes are still relatively clean…” Well, that doesn’t need any more comments, does it?
