Required - a head for heights
Check out the bloke at the top of the pylon! Rather him than me! We passed this group of workers on the way to Princetown Day 281 - Box Hill North to Princetown
This is it, we’re definitely leaving this morning! I’m not sure the Adams believe that when they return from school and work their driveway will again be empty, but it will!
There’s no mad rush though, we’ve picked our destination for tonight and it’s only a couple of hours along the coast so we get stuck into the normal routine of walking the dogs and getting the girls lunch boxes sorted. I quickly jumped on the internet to check the Gumnut Babies geocache status and was excited to find that the handmade Gumnut Babies are on the move! The cache has been found already by a geocache enthusiast who went out looking for it in the dark last night at twenty past eleven!! The girls were very excited to hear the news.
Darryl stayed behind with the girls while I went out with Anna for a walk. Daisy gives Henry quite a lot of jip along the way but when she nipped his ear once too often she was thoroughly told off and from that point on the walk was a lot less stressful for Henry. She didn’t pull so
much to be the leader of the pack and even managed to walk side by side with him without nibbling his ear. Things were looking up!
When we got to the Bushy Creek reserve we were both alert to the fact we needed to get Daisy back on the lead before she got too close to the muddy puddle she so loves to frequent but we were too slow. She’d figured it out at the start of the trail and despite our best efforts to call her back she was gone, straight to the muddy waters and of course she came out white on top and black underneath! I just can’t help the laughing!
While we were here I checked the Gumnut Babies geocache and from the log could see that two different people have actually been out to it this morning! Gosh we hadn’t realised how popular this world wide game really is.
By the time we got home the girls had already gone off to school and Grant had left for work. Anna was the next to go and that left us finishing our packing up and getting ourselves ready. We were on the road
Before the bush was cleared
Part of the footpath at the Simpson Reserve where we stopped for lunch by 10am heading for the coastal town of Princetown.
Being able to travel along the City Link toll roads makes things much more straight forward although we did miss a trick with a section of the M1 which Tom Tom doesn’t seem to know about. Not to worry, the roads are pretty clear this morning and there are no major hold ups at all.
We made our way out through Geelong and then across the top of the ranges through Colac and then dropped down through Simpson where we stopped for lunch at a beautiful spot. The drive was great, very peaceful and by early afternoon we’d arrived at the Princetown Camping Reserve. We’d decided to spend tonight with power trying to make more headway with the blog, at $20 per night it’s not too bad considering the location is so beautiful right on the Gellibrand River and so close to the main attractions of the Great Ocean Road.
We’ve been given a contact by the lovely Reeves family who are now back home in Mansfield. Their neighbour and dear friend Julie has a beach house in Peterborough so they’ve put us in touch and she’s given
us an open invitation to visit anytime. We think that we’ll do that tomorrow and she sounds like lots of fun.
It was a lovely day out so we didn’t want to be stuck in the caravan strapped to the blog so instead went for a walk through the sections of the Loch Ard Gorge which we hadn’t managed a few weeks earlier. The wind was really whipped up this afternoon and keeping hold of your hat was entertainment in itself! We wandered to the cemetery and through to Thunder Cave, the area is just so stunning that you can easily pass hours here, and we did!!
We eventually took ourselves back along the road to Gibson Steps which you can walk down to get to the beach. The views are just stunning and it’s a walk that we want to do again to try to get a decent photo of us as today we struggled not having the tripod.
Back at camp Dar cooked a lovely dinner and watched Ocean’s 13 while I did some more work on the blog. It’s about a two and a half hour commitment on a daily basis which isn’t too
bad and at least has kept my mind active and my typing fingers nimble!
Late on in the night we had a text message from Julie saying that we’re more than welcome to head over there tomorrow so that’s our planning done for us - Peterborough here we come!
