Well, I'm here!
After getting about 3 hours of sleep, Mom and Ginny dropped me off at the airport where I met up with Mike and Mavis (also from Ontario) who were also going to teach at the school in Tegus. I had chatted with them briefly on facebook prior, so knew who to look for. It was nice to chat with others going the same place I was.

The first flight was fine. I slept through most of it, which is weird for me. I'm not usually a plane sleeper.

When we got to Houston, we had 30 minutes to change flights which meant we walked from terminal A to E, went to the bathroom then walked straight on to board the flight. On the flight, we met multiple others who were also heading to teach at AST. Some of whom I'd also already connected with briefly on facebook.

Once we arrived in Tegus, we all got our bags (except poor Mike, whose luggage was on the same flight as Mavis and I, yet only his was lost) and we made our way out to the lobby to meet up with the people from the school. They greeted us and loaded our luggage on the AST school bus and off we went.

We checked into a beautiful hotel (Honduras Maya) and then were told we were free until tomorrow morning at 9. The hotel is great. I called home, called Walt, then hung out at the outdoor pool where our numbers continued to grow and grow as more people came down to join us. It felt amazing to be soaking up the sun (finally!), enjoying Barena (my FAVE Honduran beer) and enjoying the company of other new teachers with whom I will be working for the next 2 years. It seems like a great group. A few couples, some singles, and just a lot of friendly faces.

I feel so blessed to be teaching at this school considering ALL the teachers I have talked to were hired through recruiting fairs in the States. I seem to be the only one who wasn't.

We're meeting up for dinner and drinks in about an hour, then I plan to get a good night's sleep.

Tomorrow Walt will head to Tegus, although I'm not sure where or when we will be able to meet up. He'll hang out with his friend Kenny until I have some free time at the hotel to meet up with him.

They are taking us to see the school tomorrow and then out to start apartment hunting. Then there's a welcome dinner tomorrow for all the new teachers.

So far, I feel like royalty. We truly have been spoiled. I can't wait to start this new adventure!
