Hitting Up Halifax . . .

I had a good long (though frequently interrupted by others in the dorm) sleep. Took a slow morning, reading, having breakfast, before leaving the hostel.

I walked pretty much non-stop until the evening. With my tourist magazine in hand, I did the walking tour of Historical Halifax, then took the ferry across the Harbour to Dartmouth for another walk there. My feet are heavy and aching but I am so relaxed and content.

One of my first explorations was in the Public Gardens. It was beautiful, serene. I passed elderly couples strolling, families pushing strollers, a large family reunion picnic, a group under shady trees practicing Tai Chi. It made me wish I was settled somewhere that I could spend Sunday mornings in the park - but wherever I settles needs to definitely have a place of tranquility like that. A park, a beach . . . something.

I walked up and around Citadel Hill. But I didn't do the tour in the fort. I'm a bit ownr out of that right now. It was a lovely spot to take in the scenery of the city.

I roamed around the downtown streets, checking out some shops, filling my travel mug up at Tim Hortons.

I loved the Historical Properties - old commerce buildings - down by the water. The cobblestone walk and brick buildings were lovely. I adore spots like that.

Then I took the ferry over to Dartmouth. Just a little more than a week ago (so little time - really?)I was at camp for staff training and couldn't decide what to do for my vacation. I wanted to cruise but didn't want to pay the price. Christopher told me to go to Halifax an he told me to take the ferry because it's so pretty. And when I went home and continued the debate to cruise or return to Esalen or visit Vancouver or discover Halifax . . . I kept remembering Christopher saying how he loves Halifax, how beautiful it is and how lovely the ferry ride is. And he's right. I've been here a day, but I love Halifax. It is beautiful. And the ferry ride is lovely and pretty and peaceful.

I spent about an hour on the historical walk around Dartmouth. It's so lovely and peaceful. I can't get over how such a populated place can feel so at ease. I watched a family feed the ducks. I swa a house for sale and concluded I could happily live in it. I fell in love with a big old mansion and imagined living in it but surrounded by farmland. Then I sat down by the water and journalled for awhile.

Tonight's dinner: mussels AND lobster. How's that for treating myself?

Then tonight, I'm meeting up with Alycia, who I worked with just up until a month ago on the Destiny. The plan is to go to a stereotypical East Coast pub.

This trip is so good for me. I needed time of solitude and quiet but mixed with the joy of exploring somewhere new. And I still am just in love with seeing somewhere new in Canada - the excitement of seeing somewhere new but how comfortable I feel because it is still my home.
