Day 4 (Friday 24-Apr-09 JRJ & NJ)

Brekkie by 7.30am. Port for 8.15am, signed up for Great White Shark viewing and cage diving trip - sorry Mams, we didn't want to miss it, but the weather was on your side and stopped the sharks coming out to play. We did see a shark, well it's dorsal and tail fins, near our boat but it wasn't in the mood for posing for our cameras, naughty sharkie. The weather was glorious from the time we awoke until about 11am when it went dull, windy and rainy - that's why the water was so cold and the sharks stayed away although apparently it's usual for this time of year for the bay to be full of the 'cuties'. On way back to shore stopped close to Seal Island (which is one smelliest places ever and literally nearly made J vomit) as we had anchored not far from it in the hope that the sharks would fancy seal for lunch. We were praying to see baby seals get tossed about like rag dolls before being devoured so we could get our monies worth - £100 each. Even Jamie wanted to witness the mauling of one of God's creatures - it seems we've had voodoo spells cast on us to turn us into our alter egos! At least we had 25% of the cost back as we failed to go cage diving. Talking to crew woman on board was an experience - she's a white, lesbian racist who was the first in RSA to qualify as a Firewoman at age of 16 and if passes her Muai Thai grading next week will become the hardest fighter in RSA. She gave us an insight into racism when she told us about her white farmer neighbours nr. Joburg that were slaughtered with hammers and machetes @ time of farm murders.

Left Mossel Bay at 1.30pm, for Jamie to drive 5 hours to Cape Town. Petrol light was on for a time, Jamie was panicking but luckily we found a petrol station before (in the words of J) “we would get picked up by a dodgy redneck type (as in Wolf Creek) and directed to his retarded cousins garage, where we would be butchered and chopped up, so he could feed his mutant children!” So anyway back down to earth, it should be noted that all people we've met have been very friendly.

(JJ) I would just like to say my 5 hours drive was hell. As Natalie slept I had to put up with a lightening storm, heavy rain, having to takeover huge trucks on windy roads and almost running out of petrol! When we got to Cape Town and Natalie awoke from her slumber, I was a like a tightly coiled spring an my hands were so sore from gripping onto the wheel! That's why I was stressed so there!

Driving into CT (6.30pm-ish) had fantastic view of Table Mountain and the clouds shrouding the city with just the tallest buildings peeping out. J' stressed about not pre-booking accomodation. Checked into CT Backpackers, again fab' room. Had food at The Fat Cactus - delicious and like everything else was cheap then back to room for shut eye.
