Okay, this is a call for help from anyone who knows anything about setting up bio-latrines.

I have plans and the resources for setting up biodigestors using esteircol, or crap, from livestock. The biogas that results from the methane produced by crap is then piped into the house and used to fuel gas powered stoves... which eliminates the need for deforstation in using firewood for cooking, cleans up the yard of cow/horse poo, and the side product of the biodigestor is very nutrient rich fertilizer that can be used in the garden.

However, I want to figure out how to do this in communities WITHOUT a lot of cattle or horses, where it´s hooked up to the latrines and human excrement.

My main question is: Does a new latrine have to be built in connection to the biodigestor, or can it be hooked up to an existing latrine?

If a new latrine has to be created in addition to the relatively expensive plastic bag and piping needed to build the biodigestor, where has funding come from?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

It's on the way!
Your Dad had me mail to you his MOTHER EARTH NEWS "bible". From just a glance at the front cover, looks like it may have some good info for you. Let him know, OK? Hmmm...funding....yes, the next good question, for sure. Wi$h I had a good idea already, but don't. Yet. :)

Project Concern International
Hi! I just happened to run across your blog on google and love reading it since I work with a non-profit based out of the U.S. that has a project in Jinotega...you've probably heard of it already but Project Concern International has a project in Jinotega where they "model" projects like the biolatrine. You can actually visit their farm, see how everything works, and figure out what materials/supplies you'll need to start implementing. Might be helpful to you!
