Rightio. So we got into Athens at around 6am, got to the backpackers at 7... 7:30. We couldn't check in (as much as we wanted to) till 1:00 so we dropped our bags and started walking.

We saw the Acropolis from outside the fence, it's pretty impressive. By the time we got passed it we were exhausted, the flight had taken it out of us and it was STINKING hot. It was now 8am and we were over it. We kept walking and eventually found ourselves in a little lane way filled with cafe's and covered in grape vines. Shade. We sat. After a drink we kept on in the heat and saw a bit more of the Plaka district. An hour later found ourselves in the refuge of the National Gardens. Shade. We sat. By this stage all we could think about was a shower. It was now 9 o' clock, 4 hours to go. We walked through the gardens and from outside the fence, again, saw another landmark the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Also pretty impressive, we tried to kill as much time as possible with the least effort possible but found ourselves back at the backpackes at

You have no idea how good it was to sit under this tree! Heaven!
around 11:30. Luckily they had breakfast there so we had some food, made a coffee found some shade and sat. We convinced ourselves we had seen all that Athens had to offer already and changed our booking from 3 nights to 1. The beaches were calling.

By the time 1 o' clock rolled around we were excited to get a room, have a shower and lie down. But we were now told that it's actually 1:30 till we get our room. So we went and found some shade, and sat.

Finally got to our rooms and it was the best room in the place. Top floor, huge balcony and view of the Acropolis! We spent the night up on the rooftop bar and got a good sleep in.

Last day we spent doing pretty much the same things as the day before, though this time inside the fence. Exciting. I don't know if I'm being sarcastic there or not. Anyway the Parthenon and Acropolis we absolutely packed, even early in the morning, which i guess we expected but it kinda sucked. We ended up back at the Temple of Zeus which was a lot quieter. I enjoyed

it more then the Parthenon for that reason alone.

We had had enough. We got our bags and headed to Piraeus to catch the ferry to Santorini.

Funny how it works out, when Patrick and I were there 24 odd years ago we felt a bit the same. So obvioulsy hasn't changed except probably got worse. Once the main tourist things were seen we were out of there. Plus hated all those tourists ruining my photos. Don't like too many people getting in my shots and it is a bit hard to avoid there. Anyway keep safe.
