we ate, we shopped, we drank, we saw things... oh yeah and we ate some more.

Rebecca and I galavanted through the city with our tour guide Jill. Our hostel had a crazy house mom that yelled at us for having guests over. Apparently, no guests in the rooms! Wow. A little crazy. But here is a little synopsis of our time in Buenos Aires... before i decided to extend my flight.

Day One:
We shopped. well, first we ate. We headed to get pizza because both of us were really hungry. Something I noticed about the pizza in BA- There is no sauce on the pizza! it's all cheese... and not even good cheese for that matter. then we headed to recoleta to see the cemetary and the street fair that was in progress... I LOVE STREET FAIRS. I wish there were street fairs ALL the time in the bay area. It's so great to see vendors with their crafts, especially when they are making it on the spot. I bought a lot of things from street vendors, rather than buying them from the stores. I think it makes it a lot more unique.

We wandered through Recoleta... one of the richest, if not the richest, neighborhood in Buenos Aires. we had spent a good chunk of time through the cemetary as well as through the street fair. We then decided to go to the Museum of Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum), which was near Palermo/Recoleta. We wandered and walked through the city. I know you aren't supposed to pull out your guide book and a map, but screw it. I didn't want to get lost. We circled our way around the building until we finally found the entrance and headed through the art museum. It was a massive art museum. You could spend hours and hours on end there. My favorite exhibit was the cubism because the walls were all different colors. It provided for a very interesting and fun glow.

We then walked back home instead of taking the Subte to meet up with Jill. We were going to go have dinner together. We ended up in Las Canitas, a neighborhood in Buenos Aires near Palermo, had a lot of meat AND SALAD (a rarity in Buenos Aires) and then headed to a bar where they played american music. It was a Dutch bar. Fun times, friends. fun times.

The next day, Rebecca and I went to meet up with Daniel because we had said we were going to go to San Telmo and Recoleta together. I invited Jill and her replacement Katie along with us and we met at Pedro Telmo and had Pizza. (see a trend?) Daniel called me a ferocious beast because i devour food. i mean DEVOUR. The San Telmo street fair was huge. We walked around, shopped, Daniel helped me pick out gifts for my boys and we continued to shop some more. Then, it was time to head to La Boca, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. The appeal of La Boca are the colorful buildings, the street tango, and of course, the street fair! We passed by so many fairs along the way to La Boca, but one of the most interesting things about the walk from San telmo to La Boca was seeing how it transformed from a really nice neighborhood to a not so nice neighborhood along the walk. This happens in any city you live in. One minute you are in a nice neighborhood, and the next minute you are in a neighborhood that might get you mugged (ah, reminds me of my bus ride in Mendoza where i got lost in the ghetto and thought I was going to die).

La Boca was beautiful. Really lively, really colorful, pretty much staple Buenos Aires and what you think of when you think of Buenos Aires. There were lots of street tango shows, as well as folkloric dances. We watched some of the shows and continued to browse the booths and shop. I, of course, bought some cool jewelry from street vendors, as well as gifts for others, considering that I hadn't done any shopping and gift buying, I figured it was time I did it.

We then headed back and decided that tonight was the night we were going to see a Tango Show. I had already seen a tango show, but considering that Rebecca was in Buenos Aires, we wanted to see another one. The other tango show i went to was all right. I enjoyed the singing much more than the actual dancing. We went to a few places, and then found one called El Viejo Almacen. We showed up at 8, bought our ticket, and then proceeded to eat. (Remember, we already ate lots of pizza at lunch time). We went to dinner at Desnivel, a great parilla. The food was great, at great prices. We had two dishes, wine, water, dessert for a mere 77 pesos (that's about 25 american dollars). We ordered the most interesting dessert ever: Don Pedro. Everyone knows I love a good whiskey. If you didn't know that, now you know! So Rebecca saw it on the menu-- Ice cream coated in whiskey with walnuts. YUM. What we received was a whiskey float with walnuts. It was so strong, but quite delicious.

Then we went and saw the most amazing tango show that I had ever seen. I was blown away by each of the acts... it was definitely well worth it. We tried to head out to a jazz club, but since it was sunday, it closed.

Onto Monday! We ended up heading into Chinatown. Did you know that there is a Barrio Chine in Buenos Aires? We went and walked around for a little bit and then got some FOOD. We ordered massive amounts of delicious chinese food... and continued to devour it. I mean, we ate almost all of it. The food doesn't compare to what we get back in the states... but you know, it was pretty good.

Then we proceeded to shop. Rebecca was on the hunt for boots. I caved and finally bought some clothes (that was only the beginning of the spending). See, I figure I had enough clothes. But then I thought... I'm going to two weddings in October. It'd be nice to have some cheap dresses for those occassions. We walked into a dress shop, and I tried on some dresses. I think my self perception in the dress isn't the same as the reaction of the dress actually on me from others. A few of them looked great, and I bought two... which I will definitely use. Then, I had the most wonderful girl help me out in another store and bought a few things there. I guess now I have some things that I can say, "Yeah i got it in argentina!" when people tell me it looks cool. haha

We headed to the Malba, and then decided to go to La Bomba... a drum/percussion set. However, we stood in line forever with some chapagne and drinks while we were waiting in line and didn't ever make it in... by that time it was dinner time so we decided STEAK was in order. We headed to Palermo, but the steak house we wanted to go to was closed. Then we saw La Cabrera. I had been wanting to go to La Cabrera because its the best steak house. However, we had some hard times in making reservations... We stood in line and finally got in. they gave us champagne while we were waiting, and we proceeded to have one of the best meals of my life. We had wine, two types of steak, and this amazing salad (no mixed greens remember!), water, etc. all for 80 pesos per person... The best steak house cost me less than 30 american dollars.

We wanted to take pictures of the food... but we devoured it before we realized we had wanted to take a picture. Yup, i'm a ferocious beast.

We had steak 3 nights in a row...

CRAZY!!! Then we went out to a bar. And went home. Rebecca is funny when she is drunk.

The next day... Tuesday... was supposed to be my last day. We went to Puerto Madero. We had Choripan. Puerto Madero is beautiful. And a Choripan is 3 pesos. Up until about 5 pm, we had spent maybe 8 pesos each... once we got to Calle Florida to do some last minute shopping... I proceeded to spend a LOT of money... LOTS of money.

And the last meal was burritos at California Burrito Company... after Rebeccas send off... and off to another bar.

I was not drunk when I changed my flight.

Promise.

But to be impulsive is to be sincere.

And I think I ate enough food for five people in those four days.

the sauce is just not the same.
