On Monday, I woke up around 10am. This is VERY late for me, but I think my body needed it from the lack of sleep from the nights before. And of course, hanging out around drunk smokers always wears me out. That's one thing I really appreciate about the states-- the lack of smoke everywhere. I went and got breakfast upstairs and talked to a bunch of people from the hostel. Everyone seemed to get along really well and it was a good group of people. I must admit, a part of me wished that I didn't have spanish class and instead was able to explore Colonia, Tigre, San Isidro, etc. However, in the end I am glad I ended up taking the spanish classes. Everyone else was heading out to La Boca and wandering around ... read more

Here's a synopsis. I'm back in the states, but there's still things to be said about Buenos Aires. On thursday, I woke up to some not so good news for me. I might have overreacted, but there I found myself next to the computer with all of these feelings that I thought I had buried away resurfacing and lost all of that goodness that I had built up about myself on the trip. That confidence just seemed to shred away and dissolve in a single moment because the only person whose opinion ever mattered will never approve of the person I have become or the decisions I decided to make (staying longer). I ended up being quite depressed the whole day, and Daniel and Emmanuela saw me in my state. That afternoon, I ended up meeting ... read more
I didn't miss home one bit on this trip. That's why I extended the stay. I didn't miss it up until now. I remember telling people that the only place I can imagine myself in is the bay area. Then I thought I would want to leave and live somewhere else forever. Maybe for a while. But yesterday, this morning, a thought occured to me... If I wasn't taking Spanish classes for the next three days, and trying to take a tango class, or see some other shows, I would have no reason to be here. There is nothing that ties me to this place and I would be ready to come home. It actually occured in a conversation late last night with another traveler. He was only in Buenos Aires for a few days. I ... read more
I think I should write a book for guys about good dates. Cheap dates. I don't even know how Jill and I got on that topic, but we decided since I was going to be around, wandering through Palermo and going paddleboating was in order. I had told her that my idea of a perfect date would be to go for a stroll around lake merrit, have dinner at one of the restaurants on grand (or actually, a picnic in the park) and then sit there and watch the sky fade into darkness and the twinkling city lights reflecting over the water with the stars above. Easy, cheap, quality time. We then talked about other things that would make good dates. Dates that I am never going to go on, and dates that are creative and ... read more
Rebecca and I galavanted through the city with our tour guide Jill. Our hostel had a crazy house mom that yelled at us for having guests over. Apparently, no guests in the rooms! Wow. A little crazy. But here is a little synopsis of our time in Buenos Aires... before i decided to extend my flight. Day One: We shopped. well, first we ate. We headed to get pizza because both of us were really hungry. Something I noticed about the pizza in BA- There is no sauce on the pizza! it's all cheese... and not even good cheese for that matter. then we headed to recoleta to see the cemetary and the street fair that was in progress... I LOVE STREET FAIRS. I wish there were street fairs ALL the time in the bay area. ... read more
Spontaneity is the spice of life. And I am not one of those Spontaneous people. Not one of those who do things like this. At all. Carefully planned, carefully doing things. Carefully living life. And in a brief moment, all of that changed because I decided to say Yes to something that I would never do. On my last evening in Buenos Aires, I really did not want to leave. There was so much to see, so much to do, so much to explore... I wanted to live in it all. I really enjoyed this freedom of being me in a different place and i want to learn how to translate that to my real world before I head back. I'm screwing myself over financially. I'm screwing myself over with work and with my living situation. ... read more
The 18 hour bus ride turned into a 21 hour bus ride due to some accident. We didn't move for about two hours. We watched Lions for Lambs twice to make the time pass. Why were we watching it again Jen and Susie asked? "I think we're the only people who have been on this bus the WHOLE time." It was a long bus ride. a COMFORTABLE bus ride. With food, snacks, soda, water, and CHAMAPGNE. Yes, they handed us champagne at the end of the night. When we woke up in the morning, Azul, a little four year old girl who had been taking pictures and videotaping us for the beginning of the evening, crawled into the seat next to me and started to have a conversation with me. She kept on asking what our ... read more
computers kind of suck in hostels... SO I PROMISE I will send photos via travelblog and via shutterfly/picasa web when I get back to the states... which is in a few short days! Rebecca is meeting me in Buenos Aires, so it'll be nice to get a dose of home. And I haven't even told you about my Iguazu adventure and bus trips! Seriously, you meet the coolest people on the bus. I seriously arrived for my bus to Iguazu 15 minutes before I the bus was to pull out. I saw Yanna, a girl from my hostel. This guy Simon told me she was also going to Iguazu as we were all waiting for the computer and putzing around that day. I am so glad I knew someone on the bus because the hostel we ... read more
Cachi= beautiful. In a nutshell. The ride was absolutely amazing and I became in awe of how the vegetation could get from rainforest and ropical to desert. Although the experience was less than spectacular... there were no eye-opening conversations, or climbing things that made me feel exhilarated... I came to appreciate geology and wished there was a book on geology that I could get through to explain how mountains could look the way they do, and how cactus can grow so close to a mountain range, where it's not supposed to be a desert. Beware of snakes, black widow spiders. Also, remember to charge your camera... because you run out of batteries and don't get to take pictures. It's also quite wonderful to be alone. Everyone always asks me about it. I must admit, there are ... read more
