My first stop on the way to Germany is a seminar in Washington DC. During the seminar we go over important program information and even go to classes about the culture shock that we are going to have. Since I had never been to DC I really wanted to tour around the city and I thought my father would love to go as well. We arrived in DC on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all the crazy cheap ticket websites me and my father had to take separate flights and even went to separate airports in DC. It was a huge pain but it was the cheapest way to get there.

I got to DC first at Dulles and had to take a taxi over to Regan National to meet my Dad. Once his flight came in we then took a limo service (for some reason the limo guy told us we only had to pay $25 to get to our hotel) to our hotel in Alexandria. We check in and decided to take the metro into downtown DC. The metro is really a nice way to get around and it takes very little effort to figure it out. Once we go to the main mall area we walked all over looking at the different monuments and memorials. We then went farther into downtown for dinner in China Town. By the end of the first day we were totally exhausted since we easily walk like 5 miles and had been up since like 3:00am that morning.

The next day we decided to visit some of the Smithsonian museums. We first went into the Museum of Natural History. It was really enjoyable seeing all the dinosaur skeletons and other artifacts. I know when I was growing up I love dinosaurs and still to this day I can name quite a few of them. After that museum we went to the Air and Space Museum. We walked around that for a while and decided to go back to the hotel and relax before dinner. That night we went into Old Town Alexandria for dinner. It was a fun area with lots of restaurants and shops with brick sidewalks.

My dad left in the morning for his flight and I stayed back to relax before I can check in for my seminar in DC. It was a really fun couple of days before my program starts. This year is starting to really become a reality and in a couple of day I will be flying the Frankfurt airport to start this crazy adventure. I hope everyone is doing well and I am excited to start sharing my stories all about Europe with everyone.
