Philip gets his 'new' wheels
Philip has polio and normally gets around on all fours so this new mode of transport has given him a new lease of life.
Hello again
A funny week as everything was geared up for Easter.A lot of people in the Kwahu region actually live and work in Accra and Kumasi but they own properties here so everyone heads back for Easter.The local population increases by about a million people who come to party so it is like New Years Eve and Notting Hill Carnival all rolled into one.
On Weds I turned up at school to be toled it was a holiday as the teachers all needed to apply for identity cards,it is all so random !
On Thurs,Katie and I took the older kids for P.E. again and had another great hour or so with them.Katie warmed them up with a rendition of 'heads,shoulders,knees and toes' and the we did the balloon 'over and under' game in teams.This was followed by some hopping,skipping and walking backwards relays,the number game and finally a huge 'hokey,cokey' to finish.As Bernice was off sick we had a break and then did an English session with her class.The kids are so attentive and appreciate any help,it's a shame the teachers are not as committed.

This is us with 'our' kids after another successful P.E. lesson Saturday Lauren,Jack,Susan and I got a taxi up to the top of the mountain.Every Easter a group of foreigners - South Africans,French and Brits- take over the mountain and for 50 cedis you can do a tandem para glide.The views were amazing and they certainly got their moneys worth as they seemed to be in the air for at least half an hour.It was manly 'whites' who took part as it is out of the budget of most of the locals although a lot ventured up to watch.
On Easter Sunday,Lauren took me and Susan on the Nkwatia to Obo walk.The skies looked ominous as we left and after 20 minutes or so the heavens opened.Luckily we were close to a building so we sheltered for 10mins or so.It was lucky we did as the wind really picked up and branches were torn from trees.As is normal over here,it soon cleared and it made the walk all the more pleasurable as everything looked greener and smelt fresh.The walk took us through the forest and it was really nice just to hear the birds singing for a while.We treated ourselves to omelette and chips at the end of our 2

We did some English with P4 as their teacher was off sick hour walk but unfortunately our taxi ride home took 2 .5 hours.This meant the main house was already locked so I had to sleep on a really hard,small bunk bed fully clothed !!
Needless to say,yesterday when I finally got back to my room I spent most of the day chilling.I did find time to give some stuff like crayons,postcards,calculators,a football and goalie gloves,balloons and football stickers out to the kids which went down well.
This morning Katie and I finally managed to drag the teachers up to the field for P.E. The kids always enjoy it but sometimes it is hard to get the teachers to show the same enthusiasm.Tomorrow is the start of the 3 day district sports so we are heading to the stadium to cheer 'our' kids on.On Thurs Fred is taking Susan and me to Accra to sort out the water filter for the island so hope to have news next blog.
I hope the weather in the UK improves before I get home.At least the clocks go forward for you on Sat night so I look forward to lighter evenings.It gets dark here around 6.30 every night.

well,on top of the mountain at least watching the Easter para gliding overlooking Nkawkaw. a good week

What an amazing view!
Wish I had the guts to do something like paragliding, the view from the mountain looks amazing!It seems wierd to hear about other countries all heading home for the Easter break. For some reason I always think of just the developed countries celebrating and having time off over Easter, when of course, it's actually probably far more important to the less developed countries, where it's not all commercialised by tons of chocolate and easter eggs!! Not long left now, can't believe it'll be April next week already! Hope you've got a nice thick jumper to put on when you arrive back in the uk! Take care, Luv Cherylxx
