My favorite museum so far has been the Lorca Museum in Lima. It is housed in an old elegant house from the 1700s and contains the collection of one of Peru's leaders from the early 1900s. The continuting exhibit is high quality ceramics, textiles and metal work from all of the various cultures that have lived in Peru. There is one old Inca textile that has 398 threads per inch. The gold and silver exhibits are pretty amazing. What literally made me drop my jaw was an open door into a storeroom. Shelf after shelf of incredible ceramics. Altogether I counted 36 walls, each containing 9 glassed-in shelves (each 6-15 feet long) and open storage on top. The depth of this collection is overwhelming. There are 2 other unopen storage rooms that I saw. And then just as you are about to leave, there is a whole other part of the museum dedicated only to ancient erotic depictions on ceramics from Peru. I was greatful there was a cafe to at least try to get a grip on what all there is to see at this museum.

Yesterday was the Museo Santury, better known as "Juanita, the ice princess" Museum (there was a stand-in for Juanita--she's on summer vacation somewhere having research done). More than 2 dozen teen-age mummies have been found at or near the tops of several mountains in the Andes. All seem to date from an 80 year period near the end of the Inca kingdom and were chosen sacrifies to the Incan mountain gods. There was a film about the first discovery (purely by chance), and then exhibits from several of the graves. In some ways it reminded me of the "Otzie" Museum in Bolsano Italy where the highlight of the whole museum is the mummy in the freezer box at the end. I don't mean to be disrespectful. Both museums are fascinating, not only from the subject, but because they are both really new and well done.

My favourite museum
Hi! Definitely one of my favorite museums is the Museum Andean Santuary of Arequipa, for the great curiosity generated by the state of the remains of the mummy Juanita there. The first time I visited the museum to be admired great discovery that made perfect and that is this mummy. Funny enough, I still felt the present of the mummy when I went to rest to Liberator Hotel. A memory that is mummified in my mind!
