It always surprises me how many people I run into who haven't seen 'the day after tomorrow'.
Not to be confused (mainly by Aussie kids of course... or maybe that was just me) with the book series 'tomorrow, when the war began', 'the day after tomorrow' stars Jake Gyllenhaal (or as he should be known as - the cute brother of the most beautiful woman in the world - Maggie Gyllenhaal
bring it on Brendan!! Maggie is hotter than Jake any day of the week, maybe not prettier - he is a very pretty boy - but definitely hotter) and is about crazy weather patterns that start happening really quickly due to global warming etc.
I didn't see it for the longest time, just assuming it to be another wanky action movie - which, you know, it is - but some bits are pretty cool too. When I finally saw it I was happy that I had, and you should all see it too, coz then you will all be happy that you did.
Apologies up front that it does have Dennis Quaid and Sela Ward in it (though I'm pretty sure that they both remain fully clothed throughout
Raph and Leonie
coming in from the snow - thankfully) there're two signs of the apocalypse if I ever saw them... and their characters used to be married - their union having spawned a son, so one would assume that he would be played by someone who looks like any one of the fine specimens at www.fugly.net, but is surprisingly played by the cute brother of the most beautiful woman in the world. Is it just me, or have we stumbled WAY off topic here?
Anyway - it's a good movie, you should see it if you haven't, though I'm not talking to anyone specifically (*cough* Lannie *cough*).
And last week in France, I experienced it a little bit in France! Watch out Warren, maybe you will still get that European ice age that you've been praying for 😊
So after my nice shopping outing in Chambery where the sun was nice and warm and it was a beautiful day, I woke up on Friday to raging winds... like WINDS! like seriously, it made me a total lier every other time I have ever thought that it was windy... sitting in the house at night listening to the wind totally reminded me of cyclones when
we were young, huddling with the dogs under the kitchen table and listening to the gale outside.
We had had pizza for dinner, and Raphael had stayed very late at work, so he'd only come home at like 10. By the time we had finished eating it was nearly midnight and Raph checked the temperature outside (in the wind) and it was around 10 degrees. 10 degrees in January in the French alps - so very bizarre.
But then... speaking of bizarre... I headed off to bed, and closed my eyes and slept, but when I opened them again I could see something funny in the tree tops outside my window.
Something white and fluffy...
Something rather snow like...
I raced downstairs, there was snow EVERYWHERE!!! Like everywhere. Around 25cm had fallen overnight and it was still falling quite heavily. The kids and Raphael were already out sledding in a neighbour's field. It was the coolest thing ever.
Raphael said that he's never heard of such a thing, certainly never seen it happen himself.
We played in the snow all day... had a few naps in between and then Raphael's dad Claude came
Mathilde
on the sledding slope over to watch the kiddies while Raphael and Claire took me along to a party they were going to.
Claude is super nice - I was so glad that I got to meet him, Raphael used to talk about him all the time when he was in Australia, and Raphael is family, so it was nice to meet his dad finally.
the party was cool - all of Raph's workmates from the mountain section at his store. I met a girl there who spent a year in Australia backpacking around and even stayed for a while in the Codge Lodge in Innisfail while she worked in a banana farm - too freaky.
The Next day, Sunday, was my last day, and it was so beautiful - the most beautiful day so far, not a clouf in the sky... snow everywhere, just a cool breeze blowing gently. Raphael had disappeared early in the morning to go trekking in the mountains with his friends and after lunch Claire and the girls and I got suited up and headed off to find him and do some sledding.
It was soooo funny watching Claire chase Justine and Leonie around and
get them dressed up in all their snow gear... so very much snow gear.
It is so hard lugging a sled up a snow covered slope. Even harder when the sled contains a 4 year old... I got to make Justine laugh a lot though by falling face first into the snow pretty often - she seemed to like me a bit better after that :P
That night we had escargot and raclette - I was in food heaven... before finding myself in cheese overload territory. I don't know about you guys but I tend to have whacked out dreams if I eat a lot of cheese, so I was expecting to have a crazy night's sleep - but it didn't happen. I think I was even a little disappointed.
Raphael though woke up very sick. and man he looked it - looked like he should strap himself to the bathroom for the morning... but instead he stayed home and slept in as the kids and Claire headed off for the day, and then drove me down to the airport to catch my flight to London.
So next blog... London town and Lannie time! Hope you're
all going great! Can't wait to get back to Aus... well, I totally can, but it will be nice to see you all :P
