La Joya: New Medical Equipment and Construction

For the first 10 days of January a group from the states came down to the La Joya medical clinic. Part of the team worked on several construction projects while the others spent their days seeing patients from the area and going to a remote indigenous village of the Tulapani people.

I was able to join the team about half way through their time in La Joya. I spent one morning translating (I was glad I didn't forget too much of my Spanish while in the States...but at times it's frustrating trying to have a discussion with completing foreign vocabulary...I mean asking if there's blood in someone's urine isn't exactly what I cover in my Spanish classes 😊). I also gave two afternoons of Sunday School teacher trainings at local churches. About 2 women and 11 teens came to the first one, and 4 women were at the second. We had a lot of fun together as we discussed the importance of reaching the children for Jesus, and practiced some of the fun activities we can do in our Bible Classes. It's amazing how excited and competitive adult women can get playing review games for points! Reminded me of the teacher trainings I was a part of in Michigan.

Of course I've got pictures of the construction, doctors, kids...but none of me teaching...that's the problem when you're the one that takes the photos! But hope these pics give a glimpse of life in La Joya.

Aunt Betsy, Thank you SO much for your part in the clinic. I was talking to the missionaries and they said that this technology brings the medical abilities of La Joya to a whole new level. The doctors were so excited to have the equipment there! So a great big thank you from everyone! It has been such an encouragement to me to have so many of you become connected with Honduras in this way! Blessings! :)

Hey, Abriela! So good to see your latest entries. Lord willing, Hannah, and her brother Josh, and I will all see you in a month. we're excited to be coming back to Honduras. Your pix of the clinic are great. God is faithful. It's good to see the progress on the chicken barn and to see the heart machine your mom brought down. Please pray for our team coming down. We still have 2 tix left. Love, prayers, and hugs to Aura and NahĂșn, Marvin, David, Sarai, Daniel, and Guidman! Please also greet the people at the church for me. I lived in La Joya for 14 years!
Hello, my name is Grace Lucas and I was an MK in Ja Joya Honduras til I was 14, my parents were missionaries to the local town of Piedra Gorda, and our best friends there were the Dennis's who translated the Bible for the Tulapani people group, Hicockie Indians (what they used to be called). I was so blessed to find this blog, and praise God that He continues to send people to this "Gold Mine"...I believe that actually "La Joya" means Gem mine. There are still many gems hidden in that valley, and my prayer is that people will continue to yield their hearts to the Spirits calling to minister there. Bless you! Gracie Lynn Lucas (on facebook)
