Since starting to travel in 1998 I haven't been able to stop! Which just goes to show what can happen to a shy, little farm-girl that never even wanted to leave home!

I began this blog in 2007 during my year and half of teaching and missions work in Honduras. Before that I'd been to Germany, Brazil, Ecuador and Guatemala. I'm eager to see where all I will end up and the new adventures and opportunities God gives me to experience!
I love seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, learning new languages, but most of all I love meeting new people! It's the friends that I make that tie my heart to a place and draw me back there!
Please leave me a note, it's always fun and encouraging to hear from you!
Life's an adventure! Enjoy the ride!
With the Joy of Jesus,
April

This weekend the reality came back full force: flu-like sickness for two days; baby scorpions in the bathroom; a huge brown, hairy spider the size of my hand (ok, maybe the size of my palm), etc. Thankfully I'm better today, just a bit weak and very careful with what I'm eating. Tomorrow the plan is to go with Nahun and Aura to Guatemala for a Dr. apt, including an ultrasound and finding out if the baby is a boy or girl! :) We finished "painting" the inside of the little house. They want me to "move in" for my last nights here, but I'm not so excited about sleeping with fresh

The only way I can think to describe it is stepping into another world. Maybe a bit like Narnia. I've been away for years and I mentally know of my life back in the states, but since the first moment of stepping off the plane in San Pedro, my world became Honduras and everything else is like a faint memory or dream. In the past week I've helped out my Honduran family in their "comedor" in the market (a small eatery), spent a morning painting walls with cement (which I will most likely do more before I leave); we've been to two "cumpleaños" (one of which we walked about 45 minutes into a

The weather stayed beautiful until the last day when it got chillier and a bit rainy ... but just a way to help me prepare for the cold in Michigan! I was able to do some shopping at my friend's store, which was a huge blessing for her and her family, and I was able to bring back a lot of fun things for the students here in Detroit! Traveling back on the 30th was a LONG day. I left Copan at 7am, 3 hour bus ride to San Pedro, 3 hour wait in the airport (our plane landed an

It's also hard to beleive that I've already been here for TWO WEEKS! Crazy! And only "3 days and a wake-up" left (as my dad says ... although I hadn't been keeping track until I talked to him on Thursday and he gave me the count-down). Here are the last few days in review ... Tuesday, December 22 I left La Joya on the 7am bus. It was so sad to leave! I wanted to stay for a week at least. Note to self: If I ever want to get away from it all La Joya is where I need to go! The bus was pretty full, but thankfully I got to

I keep thinking if the temps were low enough then it'd all be SNOW!!!! =) I am missing the beautiful white stuff. It defintely does not feel like Christmas at all! At least with the cold front that came through it feels less like mid-summer. But I'm not complaining! At least I got to wear flip-flops and don't have to lug around a heavy winter coat. I left Copan 6am Thursday morning, arriving at San Pedro around 9:30. It would have been perfect timing to catch the bus that was about to leave for Tegucigalpa, however it was one of those "nicer", direct busses that only lets as many people on as there are seats. BUMMER! So I hung out in

Everything went super-bien with the trip, my luggage came through without a problem and I arrived at Copan around 6:30 Sunday evening. When I touched down at San Pedro it was 82 degrees F outside! =) =) =) LOVE IT! It was great to see the mountains, chat in Spanish with the taxi driver, and have a fabulous nap on the 3 hour bus ride to Copan. Sunday evening I attended my host family's church. There are a lot less people attending now than back in February when I was here last. The political/economical situation I feel has affected every part of life for everyone. Monday morning I walked with my host brother, Daniel, to Mayatan and was able to see my former students and

SOOOOO excited! I'm hoping to update at least a couple times while I'm there! I'll be staying with my host family in Copan, volunteering with a friend's after-school program, traveling around and visiting friends from Teguc, Guiamaca and La Joya ... and then spending Christmas back with my host family!!! I CAN'T WAIT! Prayers needed!!! THANK YOU! Blessings! April PS Quick story! On Tuesday I was tutoring a 3rd grader and we were going over her weekly spelling words. I was having her give me a sentence for each word. Word #5 was "strike" and she said, "Oh yea! I got a strike!" I'm thinking,

I've also moved to DETROIT in the past month! :) :) :) :) I'm interning part-time at a small Christian school, helping out with children's ministry at a Spanish bilingual church, working about one weekend a month at a youth program at camp, and volunteering with whatever God brings my way! I'm so happy to be here in the city and excited for what God has in store for me through the next several years! This past summer I also worked at a camp

My bus trip from La Joya to San Pedro went well on Monday, and I made it to the hostel in time to have dinner at Baleada Express! That was a great last meal! I also had some conversations with other travelers at the hostel. A couple were from the Netherlands, another from Italy and another from Germany. I loved it when three of us where speaking in Spanish and it wasn't the first language for any of us. It was also lovely to be back in San Pedro. It was green and cooler, and my taxi driver was so nice! He took me from the bus station to the hostel and then picked me up again in the morning to take me
