10th Stop - Goa

Arrived at Goa airport quite tired after our very early start, and anxious about returning to India. Pleasantly surprised though to find that Goa isn't really much like the rest of India, being owned by Portugal until quite recently. A nice easy bus journey got us from the airport to the beach resort we wanted to stay in, and a bout of healthy haggling got us the best rates in any hotel so far. After being offered 250 Rupees per night (about 3 pounds) we managed to get the price down to a much more affordable 200 Rupees (or 2 pound 50). This deal had to be conducted under a nearby tree so that other guests couldn't hear our amazing deals. We were only given this deal under the condition that we wouldn't divulge the details to other guests. For anyone who thinks that for such a low price the accomodation couldn't have been good, you'd be wrong. It was one of the best places we've stayed in, en-suite with hot showers, cable TV, security guards and all very clean and near the beach.

We spent 4 nights in Goa but there isn't really much to tell about what we got up to. The weather wasn't brilliant, as you can probably tell from the photos, so most of the time was spent in the cafe on the beach, playing our limited range of 2 player card games (if anyone can suggest any more than rummy or whist we would be very grateful). We had one good day where we hired bodyboards and splashed about in the waves, good practice for surfing properly in Australia.

After this we had another overnight train to Mumbai which is our next stop.

More soon

RE: 2 player card games!
What is this 'pairs' you're talking about, do you mean snap??? We have finally left india for the last time, and are now in malaysia. Just about to go to Pulau Tioman in the south-east.
