One of the things to do in the Krabi province is Sea Kayaking...... with a choice of kayaking round the sea caves or the mangrove forests. We chose the mangrove forests as these have the chance of seeing wild monkeys and Crocodiles along the way!!

We traveled about 30 mins outside of Ao Nang to the region around Ao Thalam for a half day Kayaking Session. The one things Thais do pretty badly is they leave you sitting there not knowing whats going on....... except for telling you your guide hasnt turned up!! GREAT! Anyway....after half an hour or so a car pulled up with other people!! PHEW! We were asked if we'd had any experience on Kayaks before to which we both replied 'no'. The guide then gave us a demonstarion of how to paddle forward and then paddle backwards..... you just paddle forwards and backwards!! WOOHOO!!

We then set off over the first bit of sea which worried us as we were completely knackered after 5 minutes and not going anywhere quickly! After some more encouragement Bex decided to join in the paddling bit and we started moving towards this cave, in which we could see a group of monkeys waiting to cause havoc!! The tour guide had a box full of bananas, and the monkeys were well aware of this!! Everytime the guide left the boat the monkeys would attack this box like it was a car aerial at a safari park, which was quite amusing to watch. We continued on and started floating with the current through some stunning gorges, all tree lined and quite eerily quiet except for the sound of crickets!! We stumbled on two more sets of monkeys whilst floating round the mangroves, with the 3rd lot getting very close to everyone - jumping all over the kayaks, keeping watch with Bex, and having the occasional fight with the guide for his box of fruit!! We didnt see any Croc's along the way..... which i guess is a relief, although we spotted a few monitor lizards along the way!

We then made our way through some dense forestry bits where we constantly crashed into everything.......before stopping for a quick swim at one of the coves. Instead of having a dip.....Bex learnt the art of cutting up a pineapple...... which will stand her in good stead for many years to come!!!
