hello there.

ok, first things first i suppose. today is bethans birthday, and she would have been 11 years old. its a well documented thing and i wont dwell on it, but suffice to say my thoughts have generally only been about that little bugger, but thats no different to any other day. so yes, despite me being fully aware that you never used the internet and that heaven still only has dial up, i love you, you little bugger you.

so yes, an emotional day. gareth, danny and minor went to berchtesgaden today, and im sure they had a quality day. today being today however, i decided that i wanted to spend a day on my own, far away, and be able to be all clear headed and not have to talk to anyone. so i got myself a train and headed towards innsbruck, austria. i had read about this being a pretty little city that is surrounded by the alps, so off i went. the alps themselves, are absolutely gorgeous. they really are, its definitely something that has to be seen. austria itself seems like its home to the picture-esque village anyway. on the journey, i just seemed to pass a continual conveyor belt of tight knit villages, all with a church in the middle and a beautiful backdrop of the alps. it was fantastic. one of the best train journeys i have ever experienced, aesthetically. top stuff.

so i got to innsbruck and generally spent the next few hours just walking around, getting lost. its a nice little city, although i didnt really see too much outside of the centre. some gorgeous narrow streets though, and the presence of the alps around you is mezmerising. i doubt that that is spelt right as well. so yes, a day of aesthetic wonder and emotional buggery.

i woke up this morning and i had one of those litre glasses on my bedside table. it was one of those nights. thats the problem with drinking litres of beer you see, you dont realise how much is going in. we had food at a little bistro, it was good, and we also had a hilarious moment with the waitor when paying. danny and minor had the pork, but the waitor thought they had had turkey. complete language problems all round, and me giggling like an idiot. then it came to deserts, minor had cheesecake, but through some pronounciational mistake, the waitor said 'cheese case'. at that precise moment, me and minor made eye contact. we're pretty much guaranteed to laugh when that happens, but we had to hold it in, for fear of making everyone feel a bit more uncomfortable.

needless to say, it felt like my head was going to blow up. funniest thing ever.

made a big list of things i am going to do when i get home as well. inspired by the freakanomics book, im going to write myself a few short papers concering conventional wisdom problems. why swimming pools are a bigger threat than terrorism. stuff like that. what would happen if an american presidential candidate based his campaign around 'fighting the real evil - cancer' instead of fighting terrorism. might find me some interesting results.

in other news, its slovenia tomorrow. oh yes! i am one excited puppy! lake bled on thursday, should be glorious. am hopefully going to meet up with sonja on friday as well, she was a girl who spent a semester at liverpool last year, she was good friends with cecile, whom i lived with for a bit. lovely girl, would be nice to see her!

oh, and i bought rock sound. it cost me €11.30, which is more than my meal last night. disgraceful.

happy birthday beth x
