This building is so pretty with the multicolored roof! I can´t remeber the name of it but it´s lovely.

I arrived in Barcelona and arrived at my hostel only to find out that they had canceled my reservation. I originally had planned to be there the night before, but when I couldn´t get a train there I called them and emailed them and they said it was fine and they would change it but they didn´t. And the hostel was booked for the next two nights. So they sent me down the street to another hostel, which was really nice but 5€ more and didn´t include breakfast or free internet which was 3€ more a day. Oh well, I arrived and made friends with Amir, the guy in the bed next to me from Santa Cruz. I headed off to the La Sagrada Familia, a famous temple/church designed by Gaudi and has also been under construction for a long time, over 60 years. I wont say that I liked it, but I wont say that I disliked it. One side looked like an odd church with a nativity scene, the other side looked like a gigantic gingerbread house that someone had dumped icing on. It was one of the oddest buildings that I have ever seen. I went to

dinner with a huge group from my hostel, my first meal in Spain was pizza- haha. Then we all went to a live rock and blues show, which was really cool and they played Stairway to Heaven- apparently they have never seen Wayne´s World. At 2am I headed back to the hostel, but everyone else was just getting started. Apparently the thing to do in Barcelona is party until 7 or 8 in the morning. I had gotten up at 6 that morning to catch a train, so no way I went to bed, everyone else rolled in at 7am.

The next day I woke up at noon! I was getting into this Spain thing, a group was going to the beach in about an hour so I was going to join them. Well, we left 2 1/2 hours later and then stopped at the grocery store and another hostel. It was here in Barcelona that I really realized one of the benefits of traveling alone. If I had gone to the beach by myself I would have gone and been back in the time it took us to just arrive at the beach. We laid out on the

beach, most of the women were topless (stop scrolling to the bottom, there are no pictures). I swam finally I´ve been to so many beaches but it was either too cold or there was no place to put my stuff. Walking back from the beach I saw a man walking towards me with a blue swimsuit that had a little penis/sock pouch and a ring at the end. I thought ´Tacky´ but as we arrived closer I realized there was no pouch. He had tattooed a blue swimsuit on himself and pierced his penis. Sigh... We all went to the Magic Fountain which is this really cool fountain that goes off at night with different lights and music. It was so cool we stayed for 3 shows.

The next day I went up to a church which is the highest point in Barcelona and looked down at the city and surroundings. It was very nice and the church was very pretty too. So many of the churches that I have seen are very dark but this one was very bright with bright colored pictures and stained glass. I then walked to the Park Guell and explored ending at the

Gaudi Museum and a huge area with these beautiful park benches that loop around this plaza. I went to the Gaudi Museum, I am not extremely into his work but it sure is interesting. So unconventional. Then I made my way to the train station for a night train to Madrid. I REALLY like Barcelona and I wanted to stay another day but didn´t see the point in spending a half a day looking for a hostel and moved on. Sigh.... Barcelona so alive, everywhere is just alive.

I´m not exactly sure of what the name of this area was but these benches were designed by Gaudi and they were so lovely, random and colorful.

It is so fun to see what you're doing
They definitely have some very different architectural styles in Barcelona. The sidewalk is very pretty, and the pink paint was a nice accent. We like the fountain and the church on the hill. Glad you got to swim, when you finally got to the beach.
