Leaving Nicaragua behind was hard but we have to be in Guatemala for our voluntary work soon. No problems with the border crossing to Honduras except that you do not get an exit or entry stamp. We didn´t know that and tried to persuade immigration that we really need a stamp! Our first stop in Honduras was the capital Tegus and it was a lot nicer than expected. Everybody told us that it is really bad but they probably stayed in the area where the buses arrive and leave and that´s really not that nice. As we arrived in the afternoon we decided to stay in the center to explore the city a bit and you have some fine churches there.

As we love the beach so much, we headed to the Bay islands next and opted for Utila that is a paradise for divers. Diving is really cheap and probably good, but Utila is not that great for people who do not want to dive. First of all most cheap hotels are reserved for divers who receive free accomodation with every course and it was hard to find a room for us. This was really weird as the island was rather empty! Anyway, we stayed in Hotel Tropical which is locally owned and everybody who stayed there was not diving....In Utila is only one public beach and it is not nice at all but there is a nice private beach. Although you have to pay 3 USD, we ent there once and the snokelling was excellent. The use of an ocean kayak is included and we explored the reef around the numerous diving boats. Close to Utila are some little islands and e visited the uninhabitated Water Cay. There as nobody except us and the cay itself is beautiful and again good snorkelling! Unfortunately, the boat was a bit ricey and we couldn´t afford to go a second time...

From Utila we went to Omoa and stayed in a place called Roli´s place that features in all the guides. We cannot recommend this place at all as the owner must have some roblems as he put up a note to advise people not to ask him any questions! We took a picture of this note and´left after one night. How you want to run a tourist business if you do not want to seak to people or give them information about buses etc.
