Weve walked alot of miles today!

Weve been to the Grand Palace, even though according to the smartly dress guy about 200 yards from the entrance it was closed!! Due to thai people now praying to the Emerald Buddha in the grounds of the Grand Palace until 5pm. He suggested that we goto another temple. I'd already read about this scam before, so we carried on and guess what the Palace was definately open. So far so good against all the scammers.

The Grand Palce grounds are an amazing site, lots of very elegant buildings very colourful and decorated with lots of mosiac detail and Gold Leaf.

The Emerald Buddha is a very sacred shrine, and the building it is contained in is stunning. You have to take your shoes off when visiting any shrine, and this one was very strictly no photos or videos.. The actual Grand Palace was heavily guarded, similar like the guards at Buckingham Palace or the Tower of London they have a changing of the guards which we happened to see.

The heat today was Hot Hot Hot, I felt really sorry for the guards as we were really stuggling in the heat and we could move out of it. They just stood there getting baked by the midday sun, but I suppose they are used to it.

In the evening we went and watched some Thai boxing in the Lumphini Stadium, it was very exciting and very noisy, with all the locals chanting and cheering in between rounds while they are furiously taking bets.

We sat with all the other westerners who chose the ringside seats, expensive but much nicer than the caged noisy standing areas that the locals use.

After this we went to the open air concert area which has live entertainment and foodstalls. This is contained in a huge complex which is home to the nightly market, which we went to the night before. Tonight my food only cost 50baht or 85p for chicken and rice! My best tasting meal by far and alot cheaper than the 13 pound meal in the hotel on the first night!
