So now we have made it to our new home in London...well we haven't really found a home yet but we are working on it. We arrived after what seemed like to longest flight in the world from Bangkok. Famous last words from Jane..." as if the 12 midnight flight from Bangkok to Frankfurt will have ANYONE on it". Hmmm, delusional. The flight was way overbooked and by the time the lights went out, everyone was asleep except for Jane and the flight attendants. Let's just say that this was the only time that I have ever employed my yoga breathing in a practical situation and it worked ( Kate, you will have to let Gail know that I did learn something). Lucky, otherwise I would have wigged out sandwiched between two rather large men, neither of them Adam. Meanwhile I could hear Adam snoring away happily a couple of rows back. I think he quite enjoyed being seperated for 12 hours.
Anyway, after arriving on a cold, rainy day and meeting up with Graham and Sarah to hand over the goods, we headed down the Pete & Silvie's (Geezers parents) house in Kent for a week or so
to chill. Let me just say that since the first day, the weather has been really quite pleasant and sunny and a balmy 20 degrees everyday. Pete and Silvie were very hospitable and showed us some sights around Kent incl. the beautiful countryside, some great pubs and "Curry Night" at the Wetherspoon (definitely worth a mention, in fact we might head there tonight for dinner). Adam and I went for a few walks through the woods near their house and found some nice properties that we would consider living in (yeah right if we had about a million pounds!) A notable mention to the beer at the "Greyhound" which was definitely worth the walk through the woods for!
We were getting a little too comfortable in Kent, so we headed up to London to stay in one of Donna's (Slapper) apartments in Ealing while she is in Australia. Not that we have met Donna in person, but we are very grateful for the accommodation, especially since Adam found out that he has to complete a huge booklet before he can get registered and that it would be at least 7 weeks before he could get work....warning to all nurses
considering coming here!!
Needless to say that we haven't done that many touristy things, but we have mainly been checking out the various neighbourhoods that we are thinking about living in and the markets. Went to Portobello Road Market and finally managed to find a wedding ring for 5 pound...very impressive. Brick Lane & Spitalfields Market were also great. Can't wait to go back there when I start earning some pounds to buy some clothes. Adam and I walked all the way from Aldgate to Dalston and then Islington to check out the hoods.
Anyway, not much to report as yet. Our lives have been reduced to the very basic of needs, such as what to have for dinner, which pub to go to for drinks, should I have beer or wine with dinner, should I buy the 5 pound pants from Primark or wait until I go to the markets to find some, which is the best way to get to where I want to go on the tube or bus...it's tough! We will be heading off the Spain next week for a while before we start working so more exciting news from that part of the
The Greyhound, Keston
Well worth the walk through the woods. world soon.
