Madrid

First stop was a weekend in Madrid for my friend Jaime's wedding. Got unintentionally smashed on the Friday night thanks to Will's insistence on us necking much tequila. The hangover started about halfway through the wedding ceremony, but by the time the champagne was being passed around at the reception we were starting to feel a little better😊 We ate like Kings and drank like sailors, but somehow hit some kind of plateau of drunkenness. On Sunday Silke and I wandered around Parque del Retiro and Madrid city centre and then celebrated/commiserated my departure with yet more alcohol😊

Journey to Lima

Things got off to a slightly hectic start in that somehow I ended up on the standby list for the flight, so I was waiting at the gate almost right up until the plane left with my fingers crossed hoping I wouldn't need to spend another night in Madrid. Luckily though I made it, along with my bag, which they wouldn't even guarantee would make it onto the plane at late notice.

Lima baby!

The first night was a bit hectic, what with bombing it along in a taxi with only one functioning sidelight and shitting myself when he stopped by the side of the road to stare under the bonnet (fuse box under the bonnet?!?!). The hostel I'm staying in for my first 5 nights is pretty cool .. and is very central within Miraflores (the 'resort' district within Lima). Yesterday I managed to find the beach and spent all morning wandering about attempting to buy shorts (yes I forgot to pack them!) and sandals, as its scorchio here. For my efforts I got sun-burnt like the stereotypical English 'lobster' tourist. I even had to go buy a baseball cap to avoid getting too much sun on my shiny pink forehead - and I always look like a tit in baseball caps.
