Water, Water Everywhere
Also in the same park...I kinda wanted to swim! So turns out....Ika's son is gorgeous. Enough said about that because I'll just sound like a girl. 😊 We're hanging out later this week.
Their house is
amazing. It's this Spanish style villa in a moshav
(gated community). They have 4 floors to it and it has vaulted ceilings. The backyard has fresh mint, thyme, jasmine, lemon and banana trees. Ika actually gave me some fresh herbs to use in my tea which make tea out of this world!
Each one of their sons rooms has a LCD flat monitor screen with a new computer, new stereos and big TV. It's like luxury living in Israel basically compared to most houses I have been in since coming here and it's certainly big time compared to where I am staying!
Dinner was delicious...and in classic Jewish mother style, she always wanted to know how everything was every 5 seconds and kept making me eat. We had this sweet sauce over chicken breast and legs, brisket, rice, couscous, vegetables in tomato sauce, falafel and this homemade mushroom soup. Then we had strawberries with fresh whipped cream. It was great! Topped off with Malibu and Orange Juice and a Miller Lite.
Behind the Mercaz
This lovely fountain is in a park behind my mercaz. Good times.
The family is hilarious! The dad Josif, just kept saying how much he liked me because I was so happy and smiled all the time. He said Ika called him and he was hesitant but when she said "she just laughs and smiles so much!" he said to bring me over! All her sons were great. Slil, the youngest one was so sweet. They pick on him a lot (in a fun way) and he just kept doting on me, making sure I had enough to eat, drink and kept talking. It was just a fun time all around. I can't wait to go back. I promised them I would make them my homemade tiramisu soon.
Today was a boring Shabbat day. Melissa and I slept until noon and then woke up and explored Ra'anana. Hence the new pictures. I want to live in some of the apartments we saw. They reminded me of the apartment buildings you see on the beaches of Jersey shore or California. Very clean, and very modern.
We found this park in the middle of the one community and climbed all over, sliding down the slides, climbing the
Random Beautiful Flower
These are everywhere...no idea what they are, but they're great. ladders and played on the see saw. Oh yeah...I'm a dork alright. But so is she, so it's all good. 😊 I'm such a big kid...this whole aliyah thing is an adventure...why not have fun?
They have all these water fountains and such here in the city, all over the place, so if I take plenty of pictures of them, understand they're
everywhere! They even have refridgerated water fountains here to drink out of so they're ice cold. This is no desert city in a 3rd world country people...some things just amaze me here. I'm like that little kid with wide eyes that just goes "woah!!!"
I had Andrew discover the movie "Garden State" with me today. We also watched "Chasing Amy". I hang out with him everyday, but not sure what's there. I don't think I'm in the right frame of mind to actually do anything about dating. I need to settle in first, but it doesn't hurt I have two prospects off the bat. Not too shabby...I don't waste time!
Seeing ambulances run by breaks my heart still. I literally pout and feel my heart tug when I see it go. Sirens and
Apartment Buildings
These awesome apartments are across the street from this insanely big high school. lights don't even have to be on and I know that I can't do that until I at least finish ulpan. I know that I have to get the prerequisites done before I can get my job going but it doesn't help. I hear sirens the minute they go off, I can hear the ambulance cries minutes before the person I am with does.
Melissa was walking with me today and I perked up and started looking around, much like a dog sniffing the air I imagine it looked, and she asked me what happened. I said I hear an ambulance and she just stared at me and said "how in the world did you hear that??" I just shrugged and said that it's ingrained in me. I naturally am in tune with it.
I also took pictures of the hydrants here for those of you in my department who read this blog, or for those of you who are interested. They use Stortz connections here which makes it easier I believe, but it's still interested to see nonetheless.
The fire corner I have made in my room only consoles me so much. I can't wait to

These are our fire hydrants with Stortz connections. get running again. I think people underestimate how much firefighting means to me. Oh well...first things first ya know?
Finally...I moved my bed back to the wall and opened up the room some more. The bed is hard as a rock with something they call a "mattress" but really its just this thin padded thing trying to pass for a mattress. They're not fooling me and neither is my muscle spasms. I may as well sleep on the floor, it's right on par with it.
But for less than $100 a month in rent, I can't really bitch too much.
Hopefully I pick up a mattress tomorrow at Yad Stein.
(literally...Hand 2...or in American terms....second hand shop) Anyways...off to bed! Tomorrow starts language training at 8am.
Laila tov!
