Hello again, been a while since i wrote one of these!!!!! Any how from Airlie beach/Whitsundays we headed down to a place called 1770 or Agnes Water depending on whereabouts you are, staying at a place called Cool Bananas. After a long 11 hour coach trip down not much was done on the first day their apart from sleep. The next couple of days however were action packed starting with a surfing lesson the next morning. This was great fun and took up all the morning, im not convinced im built for water however after many lame attempts of standing up, i got there in the end though. That afternoon we all went whizzing round 1770 on mini choppers on the scooteroo tour where you could see lots of kangeroos and wallibies jumping around aimlesslesly. The little town is tiny and is on the coast with many beautiful sites which we saw on the tour, despite the rain!!!! Our final day their we went on a kayak tour down on one of the beaches which included wave surfing on the kayaks. Whilst me and barbs were heading to the waves in calm water we fell off, not the best of starts,
but when we got to the waves we ruled them as you can imagine???!!????? That night we went out to the only pub their and got pretty drunk with probably half of cool bananas, ended up at some locals house party, happy times.
Next stop was Hervey Bay, which is where we did Fraser Island from. We had one night in our hostel and then the next morning we were up for 6 for our breifing on our 3 day, 2 night, 4x4 selfdrive tour. After this breifing we were put in to groups of 7 or 8 and headed off to the storage base to pick up all the cooking, storage and camping equipment needed. Then all the food and alcohol was brought from the supermarket which lead to a rather cramped ride to the ferry terminal as none of the food had been packed away in the cool box (heskey if your an aussie). Luckily enough for us five we had two of the most organised people in the world on are group so this situation was sorted before we had got on the ferry, result!
Right Fraser island itself, what a beuatiful place is the
first and most obvious thing to say about it! As we arrived the water bucket was filled tyres let down and we were of on our way to our first destination which was Indian Heads. This is when i first realised just how bumpy a ride the next three days were gonna be on the rather uneven sand tracks, with occasional areas of wooden panels on them which didnt really help. I was hoping it was just because dave was driving, but he was one of the better drivers (unbelievable i know with his track record)!! The first part of the drive was going inland across the island to get to the 75 mile beach, all you could see each way was sand and sea, awesome!!! Once on the beach we drove north on the sand to indian heads, where we parked up and walked to the top of a small cliff to look out over the ocean and some of the island, you can aparantly sea sharks and other sea life from here, we didnt!! Next on the agenda was a short drive to champagne pools, which is where we first encountered issues with getting stuck in the soft
sand. On are way and way back we seemed to spend more time out of the 4x4 digging and pushing our way out of the sand, all good fun however!!! Champagne falls itself was ok and most of the group and the other two groups we were also with stoped and had a swim! Once we finally got back to the main beach we headed back down south a little to set up camp for the night. Once all the tents were set up it was food time, which was a bbq consisting of steak, sausages and bread what more can a man want, well maybe more light and better cooking equipment, gotta get a moan in some where. The rest of night was spent with the 30 of us in our tour group playing drinking games, singing badly and sinking a stupid amount of goon, or slightly nicer alcohol if your not cheapskates like me and my fellow travelers. The next morning we all seemed to wake up stupidly early which was probably because of the ridiculas heat in the tents, which was made worse with the amount of march flies which are extremely annoying. With time to kill
due to the tide being out or in (dont know which one, yep i am pretty stupid!) and having a bit of a hangover, there was only one solution ..... beach cricket! Once we were able to set of again we headed for Eli creak which was really nice. We spent the best part of an hour there walking to the top of the creak, jumping in the water and letting the flow of it take us back down to the start, great fun!! After that we headed to one of the many beautiful lakes on the island, may of been lake wabby cant remeber. It took around an half hour forest walk to get their and was situated at the bottom of a massive sand dune so correct me if im wrong by the name of it, if anyone knows!!! After this it was time to set up camp again and similar antics followed from the previos night but this time we were joined by dingos which was quite cool although a few people were a bit warry. Our final day we spend driving and swimming in the lakes one of which was lake mckenzie and after that we
headed back to the ferry terminal and back to Hervey bay.
After one more night at hervey bay we headed to Noosa on the 9th feb, another beach destination. From here we went to australia zoo, which steve irwin ran, this was a really good day out with lots to see! The actual shows put on were quite cheesy but good fun and obviosly aimed at every age which was good. The only over real memory to put down about Noosa was England beating the Aussies in the one day cricket, about time we had something to gloat about, this obviousdly took up two of the days there! Oh yeah the beach in noosa was nice too!
Next stop Brisbane, we stayed here for quite a while, which was nice just to spend a few days relaxing. By this i mean pretty much 7 days of watching tele, going to the cinema and having probably one to many nights out (all of which were good fun however). We stayed at a place called bunk which i thought was one of the better hostels we've had, probably because they did 7 dollar jugs. We also went to see a
NOFX gig in Brisbane which was awesome, there pretty funny live and its the first gig ive been to in 4 years, how lame am i!
Any way thats enough typing for me, hope everyones well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
