Mark took two days off on 30th and 31st March. From 29th March England started lifting restrictions and this would make it easier for us to make excursions further afield of Wood Green.

Broomfield Park

We decided to visit Broomfield Park on 30th March. London saw blue sky and rose temperature early in the morning. We took No.121 bus to Aldermans Hill from Wood Green. Mark was confident with the direction as he had previously visited the pharmacy to receive Covid jab. Sunny & warm weather and lifting restrictions seemed to have attracted a number of local people – we saw a group of people sitting in a sun, having a picnic, doing yoga and playing ball. We walked around a couple of ponds and had a close look at waterbirds and their nests. We also found Broomfield House which has been currently under reconstruction near the biggest pond.

We walked on the outer footpath and were blessed with cherry blossoms, spring flowering shrubs and trees and daffodils and little flowers on the foot.

In addition, Broomfield Park has a little conservatory where tender plants, sub- and tropical plants grow – it was closed on 30th March; hopefully we will be able to visit there in the near future.

Arnos Park and Waterfall Walk

We decided to visit Arnos Park on 31st March. After having lunch, we took tube to Arnos Grove. The park was behind the station – we could see a clump of tress on the back of the station and approached there via Arnos Road. Pymme’s Brook flows on the Arnos Park and offered picturesque, tranquil riverside scenery with cascades, willows and aquatic plants. Surrounded by greens, Arnos Park offered us peaceful, therapeutic environment; we were blessed with cherry blossoms, wild flowers, etc along the winding footpaths. We were pleased that the toilet was open at Arnos Park on 31st March (The toilet at Broomfield Park was closed on 30th March). We admired an authentic looking viaduct for Piccadilly Line which goes across the park.

We decided to go on Waterfall Walk which starts just across the busy road. As soon as we entered the Waterfall Walk, traffic noise disappeared; instead a series of birds’ singing came into our ears. We saw several walkers, joggers and dogs along the footpath. Waterfall Walk ran along Pymme’s Brook which came from Arnos Park – it offered tranquil scenery. We felt this peaceful environment has appreciated and nurtured a remarkable range of wildlife and wild flowers. At close distance, we saw a couple of birds stopping at branches, several squirrels eating nuts, running along the trees – and I spotted a red wild fox standing on the bank of Pymme’s Brook. The fox seemed to be looking at us a full of curiosity and didn’t go away and allowed me to take photos. It was a real wild fox: the lady who was leading her dog on the footpath also confirmed it.

We were delighted to have been immersed in the countryside atmosphere in the middle of London.
