After a few days of doing not a lot, besides people watching on the beach, snorkelling, watching sunsets and trying out different restaurants, we are truly chilled to the core. (But in a good way, not in the way you might be back home in Britain)
So, it was time to go and do some exploring. We set off on a long walk to find some sandy bays and coves further afield. Setting off in the cool of the early morning was quite easy but as we returned in the late afternoon the sun was high in the sky and beat down relentlessly. Half way back we stopped off at Mad Bull bar, a place we'd discovered last time we were here that served ice cold beer and a huge plate of cheesy chips with crispy Bacon. We like Thai food but sometimes you just have to revert back to some of our western delicacies. From there we still had another 40 mins walk along the beach, we arrived back at our room dripping. Oh nice!! A quick plunge in the sea cooled us down.
We've had a couple of nights out at Irie Bar watching live bands and lots
of socialising, as mentioned in my last blog, in the local bars and hang out spots some with fire shows on the beach.
One of the beaches we'd discovered on our walk previously had definitely turned out to be our favourite, totally unspoilt, lined along the back with palm trees and other vegetation with just a shack serving ice cold drinks. After a while we felt we'd like to return. Stan suggested we rent a motor bike this time, which we did, but let's just say I was glad it was only a ten minute ride away. The beach was accessed from the main road via a dirt track and very bumpy. Although to be honest the main road hadn't been much better!
As we'd been there before we didn't bother to take the camera. A decision we came to regret.
Three cows were tethered up behind the shack/ cafe but as the morning went on they broke free and began wandering off. One almost knocking a motorbike over as it used it to have a good scratch.
The other two ventured onto the beach so the cafe owner chased after them but only succeeded in making
them run faster. They began rampaging along sending sun - bathers scattering in all directions. It was quite funny to watch really. Sadly no photos.
On the way back we stopped at a local market for a wander. Interesting to see some of the local delicacies on sale. Yuck!
Our ten minute journey was punctuated again with a stop off at Mad Bull cafe for a lunch of cheesy chips and bacon again. Enough indulgence, back to Thai curry tomorrow!!
Always in search of new things, the next day we took a stroll around one of the four star hotel complexes that was tucked away at the far end of Long Beach. It was interesting to see how the other half live but I still think I like the area we are in better.
Each evening, here, we never fail to get talking to other experienced travellers and pick up new ideas. We've heard a lot of stories of people travelling in India. Sounds like its going to be interesting!
We have a few more days left here before heading off to Phuket from where we will get our flight to India on February 8th.

Get ready for cows!
Shame you didn’t take your camera, but I’ll expect plenty of cow photos in India!
