Coromandel Coast
This is what the drive was like... wow. So... many things have happened since our last entry. First, we left kerikeri and got a ride down to Auckland with a Dutch guy we met in Kerikeri. We got in at 11:30 at night and crashed at a hostel. The next day we caught a ferry out to Waiheke Island. The ferry was really pretty, the day was awesome, and we were stoked to do some work for the couple we had talked to. We got there and the family was really wierd. The guy acted like he had been out in the sun waaay to long (Evan and I affectionately call him "crazy eyes"). Also, though the island was pretty (there were loads of good beaches, but none really surfable), there was nothing to do and we were feeling really down and just decided to get out of there a.s.a.p.. So, we told the couple we needed to go to Auckland to buy a car. So, we took the ferry back the next day and went car shopping in Auckland. We looked around and test drove a couple cars and finally bought a Hyundai Excel for $650 on Wednesday. The guy we bought the car from was pretty cool
Coromandel Coast
This is what the drive was like... wow. and he said we could come back and he'd help us fix the car if we were having troubles. He showed us where he lives and we have his cell phone. So far no torubles with the car. We changed the oil, the oil filter, air filter, filled up the coolant, the brake fluid, the tranny fluid, and it seems to be running well! So wednesday, right after we bought the car, we drove to the Coromandel Peninsula. This place is amazing!!!! We love it here. Even though there aren't many people the scenery is awesome. The beaches are cool and driving the coastel roads are fun. We stayed in Coromandel town last night and stayed at a campground. There were only two other guys camping and three girls staying in the dorms so it was pretty quiet. We introduced ourselves to the guys, who were from Newcastle and later on met the girls, who were German. We all went into town, played pool at the pub, met a couple hilarious old kiwis, and later went back to the campground and played poker and talked. Yesterday we drove here to Whitianga (the kiwis pronounce all the "wh" sounds as f
sounds). It's nice here. We met a cool guy last night who is from Hamilton and had a good time talking with him. Then, we found an empty parking lot and slept in the car. It's nice to have a free place to sleep even if it's not the most comfortable. Today we awoke and found that our stove is not working for some unexplainable reason so we ate kiwi fruit and tangarines for breakfast. We'll put some pics up soon. Today we're heading to hot water beach where you can dig a hole in the sand and it turns into a natural hot tub!!!
