First off, I'm american, but I'm somewhat experienced with the Philippines. I lived in the Cagayan Valley for two years and am fluent in Tagalog, and can get by with some Ilokano. I'm planning a return trip soon, but have many places I'd like to visit and am thinking about renting a car for a week to minimize my traveling time. I'll be flying into Manila and hope to rent a car there. I've found a few places, but does anyone have suggestions? do I need to make a reservation or can I just show up and rent a car for a week? I have driven in the philippines before and understand it's not like the US as all.

My first destination would be Baguio, which is about 7 hours?
then from there to Banaue... Anyone know how long it takes to drive a car from Baguio to Banaue?
After that I'll be going to Santiago, Cagayan, and making my way up to the northern coast (Alacapan). I'm familiar with these areas as this is where I lived. from there I'll head back to Manila.

On ideas on weekly car rental prices? and if I need an International Driver's Permit? Thanks for any help! Reply to this

not sure about international driver's permit but i can only say one thing about driving to baguio... take the bus instead! it is a very long drive. bus is a lot cheaper and we actually have a premium bus going to baguio that provides a very comfortable seating space, doesn't have any stopovers (so it is faster; 4 to 5 hours only) and maintains a restroom. from baguio to banaue, you can take a bus again though not sure which bus or where you'll board since (not been there)

i drive here but driving to baguio has never been in my agenda! 😊 Reply to this
