Reply to this Hi Geoff,
Welcome to TravelBlog.
The main 4 breweries here are Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi and Suntory. My preferred would probably be Asahi Super Dry.
Are you only going to be in Tokyo? The Sapporo factory in Hokkaido is a popular attraction (free samples) - haven't actually been to the factory myself though.
Reply to this well we are staying in tokyo, about a mile and a half from the tsukiji fish market in the park hotel tokyo. we will be in town for 8 days may 17-25) and plan to try and see as much as possible within the city and anything remotely close to it.
so far my local grocer has Kirin so thats all ive sampled, ill have to hit the beer distributer and see if any of the others reside there.
thanks for the insight.
Reply to this You'll like Yebisu beer for sure! Note also that all large beer brands like Kirin, Sapporo, Asahi and Suntory have many different beers from very lite to dark. Note that the Asahi beer company building in Tokyo is (in)famous for the "turd" outside: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-photo/gil_and_devorah/our_honeymoon/1143131400/dsc01562.jpg/tpod.html
