Hi I'm planning a worldwide trip starting January and am planning on going for a year. I have worked out i can save 10,000 without getting a loan. Do you think this enough, could you travel the world on this budget. If not what do you think would be more realistic. I appreciate any feedback or past experiences. Thankyou.

Whether u have enough or not depends on which countries u plan to visit.
If u are planning to go to Central Asia, South East Asia, India, some countries in Africa and some countries in South and central America u will likely have enough.
If u want to go to Western Europe, Australia, Japan and the US u may find yourself on too tight a budget where u have to rely on doing things like finding voluntery work which gives u free accomodation.
I presume u are talking British sterling when u say 10,000 and your plane tickets have to come out of this.

Reply to this Yes, have £10,000 and planning on getting a rtw ticket outside of this. I would like a taste of both western and eastern cultures on my travels. The main places I would like to visit are
AFRICA - Egypt, Cape Town
ASIA - Bangkok, Phuket
JAPAN - Tokyo
AUSTRALIA - Sydney, Melbourne, NZ
NORTH AMERICA - New York, Miami
CENTRAL AMERICA - Cuba
SOUTH AMERICA - Brazil. Mexico
Do you think this sounds a little hopeful on my budget or do you think i could stretch to it if i spent a bit more time in the cheaper countries? Again any suggestions or feedback much appreciated. I am doing my research and reading up on the net and travel books but i like to hear direct from other peoples experiences.
Thankyou.
Reply to this Another option would be to add on some more cheap places to your list and take off some of the expensive ones. For example, would Japan really be more interesting for u than India? Also there are cheaper places to go in Central America than Cuba. The government has organised the tourism so that u could easily find yourself in an expensive tourist bubble there. etc etc
U could stay in a beach hut on a Thai island for a lot of your time and spend only around 7 pounds per day if u want.
Take overnight trains and buses and save money on accomodation.
Join couchsurfing.com and try to find places to sleep for free when in Japan and Australia and NZ and N America.
If I had your budget I would be aiming to spend at least two thirds of my time in the cheaper places. Also pay some attention to what u want to do in those places. Sometimes the places themselves and even the accomodation is inexpensive but getting into tourist attractions is not. What I would do is be very picky about which tourist attractions u think are worth paying to get into. Often the places that are not tourist attractions are interesting enough for me anyway to not need tourist attractions.

Reply to this Yes I'm with you on that. I spent 9 weeks in India and loved it. I suppose i was just looking to experience a bit of everything on my trip but i can always go back to Japan etc on a future trip. I will be corgi registered and a qualified plumber when setting off so i also have the option of finding a bit of work when in need.
Your advice has been great, just what i was hoping for. Thanks for taking the time to share with me. Your obviously a seasoned traveller. Love the overnight train thing to save on accommodation and the website, ill be checking that out!
Thanks again mell, im sure we'll be talking again soon!!!!!!
