I'll be in Hawaii for 6 weeks during June/July 2008. I love surfing, beaches, volcanoes, rainforests, wildlife and partying. Any suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated!

My best friend and i just got back from Oahu where we spent 2 of the best weeks of our lives. We loved the beaches and all the activities and attractions around the island. We learned to surf and definitely had our fare share of partying. Do your research on the Oahu attractions and activities and plan in advance each day. We found this great website to help us with our planning (www.sharinghawaii.com) and we pretty much used this site and others in our daily planning- every day. It was well worth it as we were always informed and prepared for everything. During the 2 weeks, there were days that we were tired but never bored. Oahu rocks! We cant wait to go back.

Thank you, that's really helpful. Does anyone know any tips for Maui or the Big Island? x Reply to this

Hello,
I live on Oahu (since 5 years) and I know basically every corner of the island. If you like camping, I'd recommend Malaekahana Campground (Kahuku) on the island's northeastern tip. There's a great beach there (Malaekahana Bay) and even a small offshore island where you can swim to (the water around it is shallow). I'd also recommend a hike in the rainforest. You can start with Manoa Falls (it's right behind Honolulu), take bus number 5 from Ala Moana Center, and if you want something a bit more difficult, try Maumae Trail (take bus number 14 from Waikiki). This trail is located in the neighborhood Maunalani, on the top of the mountain range. You'll have fantastic views. This trail is 7 miles long and narrow. If you want to see some turtles, go to Laniakea Beach on the North Shore. If you want to swim with dolphins in the wild, the open ocean, there are several tour providers on the west coast. I personally did the one with Dolphin Excursions and had a blast. The water on the west coast rocks; it's super clear. You'll be able to see a stunning coral reef, many turtles, colorful fish and of course dolphins. For me it was an adventure of a lifetime. If you want, you can also check out this website, which gives you a bit more details:
It's a Hawaii Travel Guide and here you can also find many other interesting things to do on all the other Hawaiian Islands as well.
