heading N. to darjeeling from calcutta

I would like to know which is better or possible option. We want to head north overland to darjeeling from calcutta or dhaka. We would really prefer to head up north from Bangladesh if at all possible. Could somebody please advise and (or) speak from experience. We will be doing this during Dec.....is the wheather going to be an impediment? Thanks for all. Reply to this
