Older couple seek advice on beach vacation

We are 50 years old looking for a beach vacation in Thailand with others in our age group. Not backpacker, and not a fancy resort. Comfortable, modest, very quiet, peaceful, beautiful, romantic, minimal nightlife.

11/15/2007 10pm: This is a honeymoon of sorts for us. We didn't get married yet, but we sure are in love. We decided an hour ago to visit Thailand. We leave in 29 hours! Skip the turkey dinner and find a beach. We have only 12 days there and have done no research, have no reservations, etc... we hope to get lucky and find a great place on an island or beach to spent the entire time. Maybe a nice beach bungalow with a private bath and walking distance to everything. We like quiet to the point of boreing. After all, its a honeymoon!
Maybe you young people know of other places on the web where my age group shares travel info? Thanks in advance,

Hi. You have not specify which Thai city that you'll be arriving from the States, but I will assume Bangkok. If visiting the beaches, most tourists will visit the ones either in Phuket or Pattaya. Phuket has better beaches and sceneries, but it is more expensive. It is also somewhat far from Bangkok. Travelling by road can take anywhere from 6 to 8 hours; thus, it is better to get there by air or rail. Getting to Pattaya is about 4 hours by road, and you can get there either by bus or limo/taxi. At least one Bangkok hotel (that I know) has daily bus service to/from Pattaya.

If you have limited time for research, I would suggest just book one or two nights of hotel reservation, and then visit a travel agency once you are there. Almost all the hotels have a (small) travel agency in their lobby. You will receive reasonable rates for travels and accomodations. Never ask for a room directly from the hotel because they will likely charge the standard rate. Another option is to make reservations through the Internet at an Internet cafe, which can be found almost anywhere.

If you decide to visit Pattaya, Rabbit Resort is one that a friend of mine visits frequently because it only has 49 rooms/houses, but it is not cheap.

Anyway, hope you have a nice honeymoon in Thailand, aka the land of smiles. Reply to this

I am more of an inland person, as I narrowly missed the Tsunami by 36 hours a couple of years ago. I went up north and fell in love with the Lanna way of life and have been going there since. As a frequent visiter to Thailand, I have met many locals and foreigners who adore Hau Hin. Since I have not been there, I cannot say for sure, but comes highly recommended. Hua Hin is a lot quieter than Pattaya which can be quite raunchy in places and a must if you can't get to Phuket. My info on Phuket is outdated, but also not to be missed. Very romantic indeed! There are so many hotels in Thailand, don't feel obliged to stay in the first one you book into. Check in a couple of nights only and if you find better, or more to your liking, change hotels. Hey there,
I would highly recommend the island of Koh Tao. It is very small compared to most of the other islands; therefore, not as touristy. You can easily escape the crowds and have a beach to yourself.
I was in Koh Tao a few weeks ago and missed it so much... went back!

A couple can get to and from Koh Tao via Bangkok on very comfortable buses/boats for about 1500thb a person (about $42 US Dollars). Once there, everything is rather cheap. You can get an INCREDIBLE room overlooking the beach for about 3000thb or save the money and get a room for about 500thb a couple.

I highly recommend it. I actually think I'm going back to spend the whole winter next year.

Take a look at central beach in Vietnam, nicknamed Nha Trang, Phan Thiet with numeours beautiful island for your entire relax. Getting into this way, spend extra nights to Halong Bay where you shall be well treated for both relax and discovery purposes. Reply to this
